Magma Beast

I obviously realise that Finito has more twiddling to do than he has thumbs to do it with.

I was wondering if a minor change could be made to the Magma Beasts please?

I know that they were altered to allow strength capped players to hunt them. Can I suggest/ask for one further minor tweak please?

Having low-average int, they still knock seven bells out of me and any others that capped strength or went for dex. Can their attack be limited to melee if a player is stood right next to them? (Keep stone though)

They would still attack with magic as they are approached but it means that a strength capped character has a an equal chance to kill one. The int capped players are pulling more than one at once and make short order of them.

Alternatively, if that is not possible, could one of the BLG spawns be "upgraded" for melee players by making them harder but with the same drop file as the Magmas (that evens it out too) ?

Thank you

I have decent int and average gear and elin kills quicker than I do, flick also makes short work of them.

I've seen many other players (mostly Korean and Chinese) handle them with melee okay.

You have a bow so just pull one out and then go into range 1.

I do, but since the still cast magic at range 1, they knock the living daylights out of me. If you don't have reasonable int (and many of the capped players don't) then you need 170+ HP pots, kill 10-20 then warp.

That's not including all the resi's you need when a second one materialises or a whelp blows your head off.

It's just about "balance" for people who didn't spend their lives doing "int"

I've also seen hurricane hunting them?

Mages have terrible problems dealing with Whelps so its swings and roundabouts I think.

I notice you are a "mage", I assume your resistance to the suggestion is to prevent non-mage players from hunting them.

I am asking for balance, not an advantage.

171str 110dex 130int. I kill em okey 1 by 1 :) get face to face then you can do it... or even lure one to side use shield\axe. They need to be hard coz drops are good :)

No I can hunt them melee also and use a char with 110 int and hunt them okay.

I have no resistance, I am just trying to help you hunt them.

Do you wear nightmare robes?

Hurricane was wearing nightmare robes full set and didn't seem to pot much.

I don't have anything near 130 Int .... that is precisely the problem.

Some people chose str/dex over int.

The changes that were made to the Magmas were to bring balance so Melee players could also hunt them at level 100 as they were a much better mob than BLGs.

However, it only works if you have decent+ int.

The suggestion I am putting forward is that, at range 1, they don't do "int" damage. It's only a small change. It won't affect the mages at all. It won't stop melee players being hit by int at range 2+ or ,melee damage and it offers no advantage to melee players. It does, however, remove the punitive consequence of choosing str/dex over int at level 100.

Also consider that Magma's were introduced into the game at a time when many people had already capped and a lot were close to capping and committed to their character build.

A quick peep into the Warehouses of the top mages will, I am certain, be very enlightening.

Someone with 100 int, in full NM set would have roughly the same MD I have and be able to hunt with ease? This is what hurricane has? And seemingly does?

Soma has always been about choices. I think you should try what I am suggesting.

I hunted about 8 magmas last night, used about 7 +100hp pots per mob, but I wasn't in any MD gear and nowhere near cap int, I think in full NM id be ok to hunt them 1 by 1, ballache but, it takes longer to cast a spell to wipe a whelp out then it does to click with a bow

I agree.

You appear to have missed the point I was making that "choices" about character build had already been made, reached and/or committed to when the Magmas were introduced.

Those who committed to str/dex at the expense of int are significantly dis-advantaged.

I understand (and am very grateful) for the work Finito/iSylver very recently to redress that balance.

I am asking for the smallest of tweaks to enable capped players with poor int (already too late when the magmas were introduced) to be able to hunt them just as other melee hunters can now do.

Since it offers no advantage and harms no one else I am totally at a loss as to why there is any resistance to the suggestion.

If the GMs don't want to do it or cannot do it - fair enough, this is not a democracy and it is their decision. I posted the request in the "ideas and suggestions" thread; not the "lets argue about this" section.

I completely fail to understand the problem that "players" have with it though.

If you are a mage you have always been able to hunt these. If you are a melee char with reasonable or better int you can "now" hunt these. If you capped str/dex at the expense of int (and some of us did) we still cannot hunt these.

I am only asking that a minor oversight in the redressing of balance be tweaked to enable all capped melee players to stand a reasonable chance.

As an aside (observation not a bleat) I see some solo mages pulling multiple Magmas, something no str capped character could hope to do. So mages still have an advantage adding to my failure to understand why there is so much kafuffle.

Capped melee chars can hunt them now. Openthedoor has used me for an example jac. My char is 171str 123dex and 100.8int. Shite int but I can hunt magmas fairly easy in nightmare robes. Or 1v1 without robes and without potting once?

I don't get what your trying to prove? Open has been trying to tell you in basic terms, if my char hurricane can hunt them with 100 shitty int then 95% of melee chars can as well. Not many melee chars have 100int.
