Nope. This is a long term server with a hard LvL cap that will not be raised until the game is ready for it.

Truth is slow and steady wins the race many people who have hardcore leveled at start of server have quit. Prime example being doom guild on devil soma. It's never too late to start with a cap in place.

If you are able to do 14 hours every 3 days, you'll start to stand out, certainly overtake a lot of the casual community within a couple months.

Steady dedication is what is needed on Soma.

My advice is to set regular goals that need meeting, i.e. "I want to get 5.0 skill before the weekend" or "Must level up before the next war" etc. It keeps me going.

As a human, if you don't dilly dally around town or craft / get involved in PK wars, you can reach level 30 in <40hours doing only bow.
With INT you can reach level 30 in <1 day.

Even without the cap in place there is always opportunity to catch up with some hard work and dedication. As ADATH said, slow and steady wins, prime example was people joining e-soma after it was up for years and still making it to the top.

Also - i see this game in level teirs
Low-Low level
Low-Mid level
Mid-Mid level
Mid-High level
High-High level
God level

Each of the teirs has its merrits and has or will have many players that you can compete with. So there's never a lack of people within your range, so catching up to the high-high levels is not really an issue if you can't manage it.

Just the way I see it anyway : ) as long as i stay in the middle i'm happy to play

Most the original doom members myself included are still actually active, just in different guilds now.

On topic though it's never too late to start playing this, just have to bare in mind you wont be competitive over night have to put the time in.

I have played since the start, I'm about to ding level 50 and I play 7-10 hours a week taking advantage of the rested xp.

If you can manage 14 hours in 3 days or ~ 30 hours a week it wont be long before you overtake me. My character has 230 hours ingame.

thanks for all the replys guys just from what i see at the moment im basicly training on my own dont see many people that are low level, it seems like all the guilds want members 40+ so boring grinding solo.

aswell read things about certain players getting all the decent high tier weapons and people fighting over mobs at end game which the people just reaching that stage struggle to then get gear.

will have to see what happens see how the character is looking by feb

think i will plod along but if any active guilds got space let me know :D

If you need gear/weapons there are plenty of crafters who will help you out. If I'm on I can make you stuff for free. Well anything that doesnt require bones.

The hunting for weapons 'issue' is exaggerated slightly, on Sunday Leiver beasts were empty for the whole day.
Besides, being a newcomer, by the time you get to that stage, there'll be plenty of weapons on the market.

There'll never be a struggle to get gear, there'll be competition to get the best gear though. As with any game.

Yes.

You will have to forget about being competitive and just play if you enjoy Soma. You will not be able to participate in any wars etc for quite some time (unless you enjoy being killed constantly?), so the vast majority of your time online will be devoted to hunting.

With your rate of play, it will take about 2 months to reach approximately level 50 (you could do better if you hunt exclusively). In that same time, the gap widens with those who play significantly more.

As FLICKTHEBEAN mentioned, you're always essentially competing with those around you, try to find enjoyment in that and don't concentrate on being competitive for wars etc.

"KING"...

There'll always be people of differing opinions, the thing to take away from this is that if you hunt (exclusively) then it will not take long at all.

To take the very top-end players, a lot of them have similar play times (1400hours) yet the difference in relative strength between them is quite large.

Some people are online a lot, but don't hunt, others are able to play less, but make much more use of their time.

It's very much to do with "What do you do when you are online" - if you have only 4 hours a day and you use it entirely on hunting, you will overtake the majority of Hsoma in a few months.

Another thing is to ignore going for the 'best of the best' item of your skill, just hunt with anything you can find and you'll find yourself outgrowing that weapon by the time you find one with good quality... Besides, a nice tag on a weapon will only give you an extra 2 damage-ish on the lower end items, it's not worth the time, hassle or money.

Depends on when the level cap will be raised, if the cap will stay at 99/100 for another 9 months or more you will be fine. If the plan is to raise it after within the next 6-9 months, personally I see no point is starting if you want to take part in PVP/wars etc.

this is the whole point in soma for myself, i dont care about being a one man army standing on the stone tanking damage while in peace mode chatting as i go but i like to be actively able to participate in pvp combat either assisting the team or dropping some timed 4th's/db's just dont want to constantly being 2hit while trying.
