In regards to the original post it's never too late to start in fact it's probably much better as you'll have people to supply you with more of the stronger weapons and armours that were arguably sparse in the launch.

Not to mention the 20 levels of free rested experience to help ease you into the game.

Finally, don't forget you can do your stats when you want and it won't effect your end hp/mp/stam/bag etc.
