Hello,
So whats up with sword users at the moment? I'm about done with dex now and about to switch back to sword and everyones stopped using sword, except for a handful. Should I even bother? Its looking like I may as well do axe. Thoughts people? Help a fellow in distress. Thanks, Razor

I would think it ws people weighing up the extra dex gain against the slowness of strength with sword, deciding it's not worth it as dex is so slow anyway, they may as well use an axe and get fast strength, or stick with a dex weapon and use a staff as second weapon, in either way. Sword is very good up to the 95strength mark, then you will require the use of a dex weapon and likely lose sword skill, so rather than re-leveling with it pick an axe, good for strength as dex with hardly move at all..
All speculation but I'd think those would be the reasons behind it.

I don't see why you shouldn't do sword. You get a fairish STR while still getting the odd dex.

Personally I'm currently doing int (yes finally getting to it) so no use for a sword there. I might farm GDG for a nice moon-m I don't really want staff skill

I'm in or will be in a similar position at some point so am very interested to hear opinions of higher levels who started off doing sword...
I've leveled about 85% bow 15% sword so far, so to switch over to axe would be no big deal for me.. It does seem like after 105 dex or whatever it is sword becomes a bit pointless lvling wise??

"GHOSTLORD"I don't see why you shouldn't do sword. You get a fairish STR while still getting the odd dex. This is why I did sword in the first place, but as a few others have suggested, doing a dex weapon such as bow and then switching to Axe seems a much fast way of gaining stats. I only chose sword for the auras because I dislike Axa auras.

Take it from me mate, axe/bow is still the be all an end all. 5th sword is nice for hurting people with low strength but do it to someone same strength as you an it just looks like a normal hit.

"BRAINDATA"I'm in or will be in a similar position at some point so am very interested to hear opinions of higher levels who started off doing sword... The current consensus among people nearing the dex cap is that the amount of % to gain significant dex over 100 isn't worth the lost %/levels required to get it. Remember that there are only so many levels you can get before you cap. If you were to hit 100dex with a sword, and then keep using it to try cap str (lets say you have 140str/100dex for example) you're wasting a massive amount of % gaining pitiful amounts of dex if you continue to use sword. All this wasted % could be spent doing int instead after you capped your str/dex. Whereas someone who used an axe or spear, would be getting faster STR, and less dex. and so hence leveling more % efficiently (and quicker) So someone who was axe instead of sword after 100dex, would be able to have more int than your character by the time both reached level 100, as he has more left over %/levels that he can dump into it. And before you say "well just dont do much dex beforehand and go pure sword". BLG have 93 defensive dex, you need about 86-7 to start them (unless you have 2nd spear) and so are looking at needing 70-80str in the time it would take you to get 13-4 dex; I'm not sure thats possible. Maybe Acaelus can give a more accurate picture regarding numbers however.

Sword is still probably the best leveling weapon time wise (rather than having to skilla dex and str wep)

Sword is very beneficial if you plan to lose your skill on the dex weapon and keep staff at end game. Sword also goes thru a very rough patch from about lvl 60-80 maybe even higher and does struggle to keep up with axe/bow combo. But imo evens out very late game and becomes a more superior pvp weapon than axe. But yes, you will go thru stages like now where axe has a massive lvling advantage.

I will never hit the level cap and therefore I will level with my current weapons which are a change from my esoma setup.
