Drop Rates - A Discussion

It was originally 15, so how many possible items can drop at any one spawn now? Does this mean that you have a lesser chance of a specific item dropping now because RNG has many more to choose from? - thinking of things like diamonds as an example.

Jac's data is quite spot on actually.

I recently spent approx. 12 hours at Palus and got 5x Sm Dia, Tow, Nahwans, lots of gumpf to npc and a tonne of barr ;p.

In short, yes. more items for RNG to roll means technically more variety depending on their drop chance.

say for instance hp pots has 50% drop rate then that's high. The other 50% could be split between 14 more items if the total adds up to 100% which it doesn't have to, it depends how the logic is setup.

the logic could be 1% for every item on a drop list meaning that the chance for any item to drop is fairly low.

having a mob able to drop multiple items would technically elevate the drop chance and that's up to 4 rolls of the dice right? where as before you needed to kill 4 mobs

It is honestly why i think we noticed a drop in some items appearing. Cause if it was simply made that all mobs could go from only ever dropping one item to a potential of 4 we would have seen an increase in drop rates.

It would be my opinion that in some cases this could be reviewed, though perhaps a reduced drop rate was intended in the instances where we have become consciously aware of

RNG of all items doesn’t add up to 1 btw. For example shards from Dio would be close to 100% drop with all other items a 40% drop rate. This is why you can get shanis that drop staff of sky + a blood armor piece + mama pot all at once. The other limit in the DB is the maximum number of items dropped by any one mob.

I think the lack of certain items on the market is mostly player driven. People don’t really hunt Paul’s for str for example and those who used to hunt magma are now hunting valks or boars,

I have noticed a big difference in devilfish diamond drop rate from before and now.

With a lvl 100 165str 125dex char, i was getting one every 1000 stinger dura aprox. Once 5 in an hr.

Now with a lvl 110 200 str 145dex (killing alot faster) i get one every 3000+ dura aprox, plus im getting a load of other undesirable stuff

I'm convinced it was far more likely for diamonds to drop before than now. Perhaps if you got a jade at 1/500 and a diamond at 1/500, changing the diamond to 501 might do it, for example?

Originally the drop file would go like this:
Drop 1 yes/ no
Drop 2 yes/ no
Drops yes!
Stop

Drop 1 no
Drop 2 yes!
stop

etc.

Now, every time has a percentage. And will drop at that percentage, regardless of other items dropped as well. This means a mob could drop every item it has at once.

ps. rng is a bitch. You cannot trust it.
I believe the drop lists can be practically endless.

So basically mobs which had a lot of junk drops would drop slightly better now. Though this change was ages ago.
