Old Soma player returning, need some pointers!

Hey guys!

I used to play Soma back in 2001, back when it was originally on GameNetwork! I have recently returned for the nostalgia, and I am loving it!

The problem is I can't remember a thing. I've read a few guides on leveling and whatnot, but I wanted to ask:

1. Are training weapons the best thing to stick to to progress stats (I use axe now, but started with sword). Or should progress up to the next best weapon?

2. Is there anyone around who can craft me some armor (which i'll pay for obviously!). I've just got to Studded but after that I am not sure where to get new armor from. I play solo and I don't actually know anyone who crafts.

3. Should I pursue crafting at all? If so should I stick to buying mats or use what I pick up as I hunt?

I am sure i'll pick it back up as a I go along, but any other advise is much appreciated!

Thanks!

Using a training weapon just means it will take longer to kill a mob, so stats will be slower, but skill will be higher due to more hit a to kill

Just ask in town, some one will craft for u, tho it will be usfull for you to craft to get special repair later on, up need to buy mats as you will need alot

There's a helpful guide on the forum somewhere by MickyC - In terms of levelling you will get varied answers from different players depending what you want to see yourself as.

Such as: Do you just want to have fun or have one of the best stat chars?

Do you expect to see yourself as a mage? meele dps, support/tank char build?

In terms of getting armour and weps as jah said just ask around in town there's always a crafter on who will happily help you out for free, including myself.

Thanks so much man, I may take you up on that offer! I'll also have a look for that guide.

I like to play a tank, as I tend to play solo (although not strictly!) and I definitely just play for fun.

Advise much appreciated guys. Hopefully see you in game!

Hey guys,

I just wanted to say thanks for all the advise, I have been following MickC's guide and am well on my way now. I got the game for nostalgia and now I am completely addicted, so I guess I am getting the full Soma experience now!

Special thanks to Prowler (apologies if that isn't your name, I have a rubbish memory) who found me in-game and gave me a few bits of gear and barr. Massively appreciated.

I'll soon be ready for a Plated set and just about to find someone to make me a Great Axe (unless an NPC sells it anywhere).
