Alabama here. First off, in contrast to the reputation of my state, I only date women of color (I'm white, white girls get on my nerves).
The reaction from the black community is different than white's reaction in the 1900s, with two main differences... White people would lynch and murder black people over accusations that were 99% of the time made-up (black man raping a white woman at theater, etc.). While what is happening now is burning and pillaging over something we know is 100% true. So the reaction that is happening now is rather tame in comparison.
But, in either cases, there is a more civil way to handle the situation.

Coincidentally, I'm walking on the U of Ala campus right now,. 100 yards from "the stand in the schoolhouse door"

We live in a wicked world where people see colour first, we all bleed the same we all feel pain, sadness, joy the same. As Aenus says we should treat everyone the same with respect, yes people will annoy you, troll you, call you names, disrespect your family etc but as long as you know the truth that is all that matters. At this time there is more than enough toxicity happening outside in the real world, we dont need this to invade our soma world where we come to play relax and chill and for that time we can shut off from the real world.
Let's see if as a small community for a few days at least get along?
Let's all keep the people of Minnesota their families the poor guy who lost his life in our thoughts and prayers.

I wouldnt call the reaction tame but definitely can understand the anger behind it .i grew up ina neighborhood where we were the only white family all my friends from back then with the exception of 1 are dead or in prison. I know growing up in that neighborhood alot of my friends resented police because that's how they were brought up. I remember hanging out playing cops and gangsters the hood version of cops in robbers where me and my brother would have to play the part of.cops cause we were white .its so deeply entwined in our society that it's up to future generations to put a end to the hate and fear from both sides

No doubt Linny. Parents and/or peers influence others' opinions.

Being disproportionately impacted by COVID apparently Lupi

Treat folks how you want to be treated. It's not a challenging concept.

While I'm sure there are pockets of the same issues in Europe, I don't think it compares to America.

I grew up in Apartheid South Africa the majority of my family were/are racist like many white people in those times. I however knew myself regardless of what was said to me, that we are all the same. Only difference being is the privileges that shape us into who we are.
