AFK - 3 types or more?

Author Content Date
In my humble opinion, there are 3 types of AFK (away from keyboard) exploits:

1) AFK Healing
Players have multiple characters inside huts our outside town, getting beaten up by either mobs or multiple chars in same guild - to get healing. Least offensive, dealt with by many players who feather into the huts to kill the mobs etc.

2) AFK Leveling
probably uses a macro to hunt mobs in one area. Quite offensive as it is cheating.

3) AFK botting
when players figure out the exact location for the spawn of a certain mob, camp there and use a clicker to continuously kill said mob. this is performed mostly to complete daily's, so albeit being a tedious process that is repeated once a day, after 19 days you earn yourself a small diamond.

before bringing this up i searched the forum for all the opinions on AFK - Ghostlord had once said to use a macro to sell (way back in the day before the amazing update to the selling process for craft) and mostly everyone else agrees on the fact that AFK leveling is cheating, and that players should be present at all times.

Now comes the golden question - what do to about them? let them go on exploiting the game - for example, everyone from the days of esoma knows of the spawn for skeleton @ D2 entrance (we even called him Fred) or find ways to prevent this practice?

imagine seeing a character parked daily, just waiting, constantly punching the mob as soon as it spawns. in many an hour, they'lll end up with 100 skellie kills, completing the daily and claiming the mark. in a year of doing so, they'll end up with 19 SDs.

What about when you share accounts? Isn't that cheating?

Well, if someone gets a pilot or some friends to level their character, how is it different from other types of AFK? I think multies have been the main issue in Soma since Esoma.

If I'm not at my keyboard and my char is being levelled by someone else, how is that not AFK? The owner is not there, jus tlike botting/piloting etc etc

multi'ing and AFK lvling are not one and the same; one may result in a custody battle later on should an argument arise, whereas AFK lvling is a person leaving their character on autopilot, using macros and what not, to gain an unfair advantage.

so no, this post is not viewing multi'ing as AFK lvling. point here is AFK leveling.

Personally, I don't care about afk healing / punching for con / stat gains. It's the blatant drop nothing that ruins the economy which annoys me. You can catch up on stats pretty easily but getting a lot of sds / rubies is hard work. It also means people getting crazy gear much faster / easier than it was designed.

I disagree, both are the owner afk, gaining levels.

There is still somebody there doj g to levelling at the keyboard though, doesn't matter who it is, still someone there that needs breaks - food sleep etc
A bot you could set running and farm df 24/7 for a month of x2 drops with barely and pk on to interrupt it and then cash in and buy full endgame kit with it for 0 effort

therein lies my point; whether its df farming, which seems complex with bots - how do u ensure they pick up the diamonds, what if they pick up tons of crap and have full weight etc. but the other, simpler, albeit more time consuming, is cashing in dailies for diamonds. diamonds are tradeable, even if marks arent.

I’d just like to throw your theory out of the window for killing ‘fred’ for dailies.

I kill him repeatedly using a clicker purely for bones and to gain levels for higher bag weight.

I think the skele daily token is low to mid ish levels. By the time you get the stats to sit there naked and not die you are past the level for the daily.

I never knew about this skele. Has it existed since Esoma? I wonder if the devs knew what they were doing when they made the game.

I know of the devilfish spawn that is nonestop in south east of VoD. Are there any others? Something I've always liked about Soma are the quirks and mysteries of the game.
