Is there any way to get mag mats other then whelps / magus?

Done a few hunts at mags and i've amassed about 30 of each mat which isn't really going to cut it when things require 40/50/60 per try lol

Maybe i'm missing something but are whelps/magus the only source? =]

No this is the only source, but from what I remember, the tier of mats doesn't matter anymore if you are crafting wepaons/armour. As long as they are metal/leather/bones etc you are good

Yeah keep those mats, I've been making psycho bow/stinger with normal materials with the exact same stats. This changed when the tag system was brought in I believe. I've been looking for bitter bone mats for a while but nobody seems to have it or any hints

In that case I might try some bone armours see what I get!

I tried bitter with roughly 50 of each mat etc back when I had 160 skill and just made normal bone, got a fair bit more craft skill now so might try again soon, Noticed some weapons are a lot more mats then I was using so may the quantity was off but yep, no one seems to have any clues to bitter :(

Yep, ever since they introduced the tag system it doesn't matter what mats you use. I really liked the better mats you use should give you better stats on items. I wish they could bring it back

bitter bone recipe is easy to get you just need a load of bones to refine the recipe which is annoying.

BB Helm 50 metal 50 wood 45 leather 48 Bone

I think only leather and bone have been refined to minimum cant remember, I gave up cos I could be bothered sourcing bones.

Full magma mats always made the base item a lot better when I played. It was consistant. Unsure why "ever since they introduced the tag system it doesn't matter what mats you use" is being said. Basic item damage was higher on weapons with full magma mats, tag comes into play after that, so tags also went higher damage than they could ever be as a dropped item. 2 factors to stat gain on crafted item, skill above required and quality of materials. Durability only effected with an additional gem or skill above requirement.

I've tested it with red plate, bull horn metal, red leather, small/tail tree and old cloth. None of them made a single difference when comparing stats to using copper, leather, linen and wood. I havn't tested mag mats so I couldn't comment but Montgomery has and he didn't see any difference.
