Dsoma Mage Mana Effeciency

Author Content Date
Hi guys

I started mage in Dsoma and i'm new to this class.

I currently have;

Spirit Sword - Power 10 - MP 7

Crystal Arrow - Power 13 - MP 10

Explosion - Power 32 - MP 16

It seems like explosion uses the most potions, but when I look at the power of the spell, it gives 2 power per MP.

My questions is, does this mean explosion will get me more exp per MP used than the others? Should I be using explosion if I can't afford many pots?

It would seem like Spirit Sword would be the choice if I don't have money but looking at it, maybe explosion gets me more exp than Spirit Sword per MP spent.

What do you think?

Its not that simple.

Using Explosion will kill mobs faster, but it dosent have to be the most MP efficient way.

Take for example a mob with 65 HP ( its a example ), 2 hits gives you 64 Power and leaves the Mob with 1 hp left. Using Explosion again, gives a waste of 31 power and 9 MP if you had used Spirit sword to kill the last HP.

Also less power means more shots witch means more Staff skill.

I was running out of money and did a whole level with spirit sword and it just didnt seem to be any different than explosion really in terms of the amount of mana used. So I guess using explosion on high hp mobs would be better for MP and leveling than using a lower power/lower mp spell.

Oh, also, does Wisdom give MP regen in Dsoma? If so, then mp consumption must get a bit better later on right? With the regen and all.

I'm not entirely sure if it's WIS or INT that contribute to mana regen, but know that your mana regen will never be worthwhile (i.e. no point waiting to regen, just go get more pots).

Explosion-X in most situations is the 'go to' spell and it's more efficient than it looks.

An example below (figures adjusted to make it easier to distinguish the differences)

Monster has 1000hp and 90magic def

Spirit sword selected you have 110 magic attack
Explosion-x selected you have 142 magic attack

SS = 20 dmg per hit
EX-X = 52 dmg per hit

Spirit sword is 7 mana
Explosion-x is 16 mana

Using SS it will take you 50 hits to kill the monster (350mp used)
Using EX-X it will take you 20 hits to kill the monster (320mp used)

Ofc the above are not precise, but you see the message.

Just use EX-X and if you'll get a large overkill, use a weaker spell to finish the monster off.

As s0rc said, it's not the power of a spell that you have to account for, its the damage you are inflicting.

I'm quite sure WIS effects MP regen.

Also punching is good for barr if we have conti - costs practically no money to hunt thanks to heal.

I'll pass on the punching :p

Are there alternative mobs to ABs with better drops?

I tried hunting other mobs and I did get barr from the drops, however the gains were no where near as good as abs. ABS give me about 2.5 int per lvl, hunting other mobs gave me about 1.5, even when the mobs INT was the same as mine.

Another common mistake is to even look at your gains in the first place.

All you need to do is look at your current INT and the monster's INT. If you are 5int below the monster you're hunting, move to another one.

You will find your gains drop down enormously at level 50-ish, so any spectacular 3.0+ int gains before then will be balanced out.

Again, ignore your gains, hunt monsters with 10~20int more than yourself.

You will NOT make any money what-so-ever until you're mid-30's and hunting EGF.

Thanks for the help everyone.

Where are EGF and what int shall I leave ABs to go there? Currently lvl 23 with 47.5 int.

Make your way to EGF when you hit 65int, though it would be sensible to wait until you hit 70int as it'll take a while to kill them.
