I was wondering if anyone could clear up the apparent confusion;
Some upgrades (say a weapon or armour upgrade) are "skill" based (ie. you have to have a minimum amount of skill before you have any chance of success). There are tiered levels of skill where success becomes more likely. However, some upgrades appear to require no skill at all and anyone can attempt them (Delight Tablet for example). Admittedly, my understanding is very poor but I do ask people in game for advice and the explanations I have received (from several people) are that the basic premise is that if the item is crafted you require skill to apply it but if the item is dropped then no skill is needed. So, a Delight Tablet (DT) upgrade could be attempted by anyone (because it is dropped) but a Tablet of Evil (ToE) cannot be attempted unless the relative skill has been achieved. Is that right so far? Assuming it is, as an example, the Grand Devil Guard drops ToEs which would seem to contradict the analogy. Can anyone properly explain who can or cannot attempt upgrades and what criteria applies please? Thanks ..... 8) Jac

How I see it is that it's just the stat upgrades that u need no skill for
Ie str/int/dex/wis+ Maybe origanaly they was going to add stright to your current stats like the hp/mp upgrades that are not ingame on here |

Still classed as a craftable upgrade even though it's dropped.
Although I did play a server where ss/dp/ke etc were dropped by a mob. They could be used by anyone but the success rate was terrible - probably just that server setup mind |

There are 2 types of upgrades. They are not dropped and crafted. They are +8 upgrades which require 0 skill to upgrade and +5 upgrades that require minimum of 100 skill in one of the artisan crafts.

Thanks Hadou.
The cloud has thickened. A swift spirit (so far as I know) is not dropped and MUST be crafted. Along with the ToE, this would seem to completely debunk the theory that crafted items require skill for upgrade and dropped items require none. It adds weight to the argument that 0 skill upgrades can go as far as +8 while skilled upgrades only go to +5 Yet, I have seen Stinger bows with +6 (presumably 5 x ToE and 1 x SS or some combination). Can this be explained ? Thanks ... 8) Jac

You are right, they do need skill to add.
The issue was that they were "crafted" but can also be "dropped" (Grand Devil Guard) and since they stack in the inventory the database makes no distinction between the two types. Previously it had been suggested that the crafted items required "skill" to upgrade whilst the "dropped" items did not. The ToE and the SS both debunk that theory. 8) Jac PS. Still looking for answers as per above ..... (Fanks)

"JACKELPUP"You are right, they do need skill to add. Like i said above there is 2 types of upgrades (+8's and +5's). You are correct that there is no distinction between the crafted and dropped toes. You are correct that any weapon you have seen that is +6 or higher has had a SS or any other +8 upgraded added to it. There is a table floating about somewhere with the upgrade success rates i will try to find it. It appears as though you now know how the upgrades work. Any other questions ?

"SHAILO"Any other questions ? Of course (please) .... The "tables" would be awesome. I understand the non-skill upgrades work on the following percentage chance success (perhaps you could confirm)? +0 to +1 67% +1 to +2 64% +2 to +3 61% +3 to +4 58% +4 to +5 55% +5 to +6 52% +6 to +7 49% +7 to +8 46% (I have no clue about how the tiers of skill affect the chances - perhaps that is in the tables?) 8) Jac
