Thanks for your explanation JH.
I understand why it would be necessary to act to prevent level 100's going around "smashing" level 50s. Not sure it would be necessary to police level 50's who want to "have a pop" at a level 100 though? ...and, on a PvP server, I am not sure why a PvPer who initiates an attack should benefit from protection from others? Just debating .... Jac.

"JACKELPUP"Not sure it would be necessary to police level 50's who want to "have a pop" at a level 100 though? That's not what used to happen though, you'd get level 16-30 throw away characters who would basically follow high level characters just blinding and slowing permanently especially on those with low moral where going grey isn't required. Also ties into some of the reasons why penalty exp exists.

FN, yes ....
JH, presumably, the "throw away" characters would go grey when blinding and could (fairly) be murdered by their higher level victim ? Or was it always not possible because of level difference? Jac. |

"JACKELPUP"FN, yes .... Before the -30 change and penalty exp, they would simply be killed then revive and do it again because they lost nothing.

The basis of Soma's PK system is that since leveling and gaining items is hard/a grind and being PK'd is an unpleasant blight on this said PK'er becomes attackable by all thus creating a deterrent. This has always included the higher level players of your guild. By putting in place a restriction that effectively allows a player committing an offence (and since the game punishes you offence is indeed the right term) to avoid retribution you create a ridiculous scenario in which only those that are bored and childish benefit.

I personally think if you go grey you are fair game to be killed by any level.

The 30 level restriction was applied in haste to quickly fix a problem, so it needs re-working still and making better.
It is not our intention to have characters that go grey not be attackable. They should be fair game at that point. Plus if you are a lower level character and you have someone within the 30 level range ofc attacking you and gone grey, then to me it is fair if your in a guild and you get guild to help you take out the character trying to pk you. For the blinding, slowing, etc, those character should go grey (I think they do already?), but they are throw away characters so they don't care and will just keep reviving on death, need to find a solution to this problem and welcome any ideas. I think with the current state the server is in it might actually be better at some point to revert the system to how it was originally where being level 16 unlocks pk mode and everyone with pk mode unlocked is fair game. But we will still require some kind of system in place to stop abuse, so need to get that sorted out first. Perhaps we could introduce some kind of PK point system where by you get a lot of points for pking characters within your level ranges, but you actually lose or don't gain points if you pk characters outside of your level range. Hopefully this directs the PK more towards it happening with characters around the same stats and level.

Is it possible rather than around moral of the person attacked it's their level? Similar to pos, the bigger the gap the more moral points they lose?

Limit the number of resi's people can carry? Once they run out and at 10% penalty it warps you anyway doesn't it? Maybe reduce it to warp at 5% ?

How about;
If someone is "grey" (ie. Perpetrated the attack) and they die, they are "force warped" to town (like when a Dev Kills a human) and a random drop from their inventory is possible. PKng in town remains impossible. That stops the idiots with throw away characters blinding and offers a reasonable penalty for a failed attack. 8) Jac

Highly against force warping simply dying grey because this will kill pvp when anyone dies going straight to town. Wouldn't expect you to understand as you don't pvp but at the moment at least you're able to revive and help again after dying. And dropping an item upon warping is already possible...
As it stands imo there is nothing wrong with the current system, no need to try and yet another deterrent to slow down pking only part I view as harsh is lagging out and potentially dropping an extremely valuable piece of gear during pvp. I would love to see dropping items on warping gone but it is what it is.

"FINITO"The 30 level restriction was applied in haste to quickly fix a problem, so it needs re-working still and making better. They auto warp when they get to 10% Pen no fix needed. If you can be attacked by anyone one regardless of level when grey, Pkers should be able to attack anyone regardless of level imo.
