A CALL TO VOTE FOR PK CHANGE

Author Content Date
"FINITO"Moved this thread into Ideas and Suggestions.

Item drop for PvP and RvR has currently stayed in the game because we felt that it would go against what Soma is though looking at it now and how much effort goes into acquiring top items and the fact that majority of the time you will never lose items anyway because of the ways to escape an engagement, plus the majority of replies here supporting a removal, I am for this change and trying it out.

I do like the ideas around some kind of point system (possibly pos but not sure about that) and linking it to who is defeated and making it reduce if same player is repeatedly defeated.

Where's all the bants about death drops gonna go?

On that however. Rvr maybe needs to be looked at as you have no choice but to warp. Pvp is fine as it is imo.

I'm against changing it.

PvP four options to avoid drops.
Carry resi, run, warp or change location.

RvR two options
Warp or run (fight)

If you're hunting in conti just don't wear your best armour simple.

Only reason I go raid conti is for a lucky drop that I might be able to trade for something decent.

we need a vote imo shame we can't limit it to 1 vote per ip atleast we'll get a realistic view of what the majority want. yes i know this is a game not a democracy.

PvP is fine if say. Like you say there are many ways around it. Stay and fight and call your guild friends, run, carry ressies. Warp, and change location.

Rvr I think needs looking at. I don't go anywhere near conti because the mobs I can hunt for good stats of need to take my best wep and best armour. And when I'm wearing that at ss or wow and still get 1, 2 2 or 3hit with a 4thbow. No chance I'm taking that risk.

When devs have conti do they hunt there as much as humans Do?

If so could maybe look at a kill count with no drops.

So like at Xmas where there was a count on pressies taken to Santa,
Maybe take drops away and have a count to 100 of kills for a boss.

That way the capped players who are bored could hunt in packs and search conti for devs to get some top bosses?

That would free up less pking for us lower levels and increase fighting between races?

Maybe put a few more top spawns for both races there. Such as for humans. Very low spawn for blg and Shanis on human maps but big on conti?

Good idea but we'd have people just farming kills for bosses.

Yeah it is part of the game and we have kept it around because of that.

But have you actually gained anything from the system and is it actually fun that most players would just avoid the situation?

Looking at data I have available there have been a total of 2,090 items that dropped from death after the update that removed item drops on death when killed by NPC (2014-08-23) so these numbers are over a period of almost 3 years with 36,219 PKs and 32,869 RvR deaths (includes deaths during wotw though and doesn't include deaths where pos was not gained).
- 1,136 were dropped in conti (might not all be RvR).
- 1,758 are equipment items.
- 214 are upgraded items.
- 1,115 are tagged items.
- 374 are Epic or above tagged items.
- 38 were dropped in HSoma GV hall (can drop items if die without being in a guild during GVW)
- 11 were dropped in DSoma GV hall
- 506 were dropped in HSoma maps (excludes GV hall, Conti, SS (none are dropped in SS anyway))
- 372 were dropped in DSoma maps (same exclusions as HSoma)
- 471 were dropped when player was PKed (though don't know if the item was picked up)
- 863 were dropped when player was killed in RvR (though don't know if the item was picked up and only logs if pos was gained)
- 1,334 total dropped from PK + RvR so don't have info on how they droped for 756 of them.
- 45 have an upgrade level > 3
- 9 have an upgrade level > 3 and Epic or above tag.
- 1 item with an upgrade level of 7 (the highest to drop), 2 with +6, 20 with +5 and 22 with +4.

Remove PK drops.

Create a web-based Domination league. Run it quarterly, appoint a representative to the league, to run / advertise it. Hand out prizes.

Points per kill, points gained and lost based on rankings and not levels. (however level difference playing a part in terms of how many points you get)
Less to no points for lower levels / low rank
Drop a minor amount of points for a loss.

This would make it so that PKing becomes centric around ability to gain points, those not participating will be at the bottom and be considered 'void' of points. And hopefully, ignored.

Rules

- Cannot kill same character within 2 soma days (8 hours?)
- Cannot kill members from same guild
- Cannot kill characters from same account / same email address (or same public IP address - not local IP)

I get what your saying Fin. Death drops are very harsh. Maybe thats an appeal of this game. This logic could end up being applied across the board. What about items breaking to low dura? This is just as bad. If all these changes get made we will just end up playing a carebare version on soma.

Still cannot fathom why people can't just tp if they don't wanna drop items..

Regardless of the statistics fin, most people who get pkd don't drop anything, so why the need to change it?

I think the concern from GM's is, not letting this game spiral into being League of Legends in terms of aggressive, banter bullshit. Nothing wrong with PVP and it possibly being somewhat a PVP related game but you didn't see rages like these in Esoma. Which only happens as a result of other factors.

I don't mind drops staying but I think they need to develop other areas of the game to widen the community and stop it from just being as someone described a 'PVP-only game'.
