I have just finished the Nightmare grind and have arrived at 176 INT. Super! But, I was advised by a friend not to do the Legendary Cookbook Quest before I capped, and doing so afterwards would mean I would become 177 INT – the only way to elevate the cap. So that is what I’m trying to do. I know I did the quest on esoma, and it was easy (I never capped on esoma, so it was before the cap), but not this time!
I did the first two quests in the chain, booze to the grave keeper and meats for the bar owner, then I get to “Select Quest’ and it offers me ‘Gathering Meats – Level 8’, which I click. This gives me ‘Just get the Legendary cookbook back from Evil Crawler in Mercenary Area and go visit Hongu in Mercenary Town.’ I did this and killed an awful lot of Crawlers (on esoma, I got the book quickly) so I checked my quest log and couldn’t find any mention of it. So, thinking I’d failed to accept the quest, it was back to the bar. I went through the routine again and at the point I got to in the last paragraph there was nothing to click. So I just clicked the board bearing the message, and again nothing in my quest log. So, what’s going on? Has it been nerfed to stop players exceeding the cap? Or have I been a prat, which isn’t unusual. Help, please.

First you take the cookbook back to hongu in merc not the bar owner and this completes the quest that gives a random small gem. After that assuming it hasnt been changed/removed you take the medicine as a follow up quest to whanking and the reward was the 1.0 stat

Deamond & 1355 both make interesting observations, and the plot thickens. Let me say that I now have 177 INT, but neither of them are the direct cause of it.
Dealing with Deamond first. We are both blessed by having a friend. The fact that the friend had the same experience I did, suggests that if I’m a prat, then so is he/she, which seems unlikely, and which I now hope to disprove. Turning to my friend, subsequent to making my initial post, we talked. He told me that the ‘book’ is a rare drop, very rare in fact, which explains why I gave up, although I had killed at least 100 crawlers. Either I was lucky on esoma, or something else is going on. Remember, I recorded that my quest journal made no reference to the quest. Anyway, as luck has it, my friend had a book, and did not intend capping, so he gave it to me. I took it to Hongu, who gave me a ruby, and a quest to take ghoul mushrooms to Whanking (GMs should rename him). I did this, and now have 177 INT. This led to subsequent quests, with which I can’t be *rsed. Critically, the subsequent quests did appear in my quest journal. Dealing with 1355, he requires complimenting on being absolutely correct. More light needs to be shed. Thoughts, ladies and gents?
