Marina was played by Jean Ferguson, no chicken, but well preserved. Better than Nora Batty by an Irish mile. .In any event, Nora Batty is reserved for 'Blood Shot' - if nothing else, the 'Batty' bit applies. (No offense meant - deep down he's probably fairly sane, it's just that we haven't seen it yet).

There are actually two interpretations of it, one is scientific, the other whimsical. The first is predicated on the fact that the Irish Mile is based on Irish furlongs, which are based on perches (sometimes called poles or rods). I had to google it to get the actual difference, which makes the Irish Mile 1.27 English Miles.
I was actually using the more whimsical interpretation where the length of the Irish Mile depends on the imagination of the Irishman using it. Basically, this means 'a long walk'. Anecdotally, when the Irish are asked how far somewhere is, they say about a mile. I'm pretty sure this a apocryphal, but it has currency in England, where I grew up. The Romans when building their roads, considered the maximum 'long walk' their soldiers could march in a day was thirty Roman Miles, which are a little less than English miles. It seems to lead to the fact that an Irish Mile is unlikely to exceed thirty Roman Miles.
To put it into perspective, I was suggesting that Marina is certainly better presented than Nora Batty, but the physical difference cannot be quantified scientifically but only by whimsy - beauty (or ugliness) being in the eye of the beholder.
I hope I have clarified this.
Oh, yes, you ask how I (and you, so really it's 'we') know these things. That's an easy one: it's because we're old, and we went to proper schools, and read books instead of playing on the internet!

Well Rona I'm Irish and I have to admit that when I'm asked how far some place is I always say oh it's about a mile 😆. I have to agree that we grew up in a generation that had imagination and yes I think this was due to having no internet, phones or any other modern gadget. The truth be telt we made our own fun and like you reading proper books is one if my passions.
