This should properly be part of the main thread celebrating the production of version 8 of your prodigious manual – however, I hope it will become a separate debate. The praises for your manual are well justified – it’s a most welcome work.
Can you sense a ‘but’ coming up? It’s a daunting ‘but’, but it certainly isn’t a criticism. On the contrary, it’s a request that you enlarge the scope of the manual for the benefit of players like me who for a variety of reasons know little of the intricacies of crafting, nor the value of individual components. Giving you a specific example: I have just finished capping my INT on Valk Shamans and have a stock of new drops amongst which are Tablets of Macabre, Virtue & Lore. I have absolutely no idea what these are for, and what they are worth at auction. Taking this down many levels, consider Swamp Beast Gems and a new player who has acquired a few. He will be ignorant of the fact that these can be sold for silly money (I sold 300 of them for nine million Barrs – not the price I demanded, but the price offered by the buyer). I know why this is now, but the new player is highly likely to NPC them out of ignorance. Golem eyes spring to mind as well. So, I am suggesting an encyclopaedia of drops. The basic data is well covered in the armoury, and doesn’t need duplicating, so there is no need to say what drops what, nor is there any need to list drops that have an immediate use (Weapons, Pots, Armour, Accessories, Etc) - probably just those items used in crafting and extraction (Possibly questing as well). The important data that I think need documenting are these: The use to which the drop can be put (if any). The value of the drop (expressed as frogs and/or Barr and/or whatever). In the very unlikely event that you don’t know the answers to some of the questions it raises, I’m sure those who do know (such as the Blue Gods) will be pleased to help, especially if a suitable thread were started by yourself. If you read this, and aren’t MickyC, and you think it would be a useful/valuable addition, please say so.

"THEMAT"Utter fucking waffle. No need to be rude dude... As a returning esoma player this kind of information is very useful. I've NPC'ed loads of items I could've sold/traded for levelling/end game gear. Could we also get Micky's guide thread stickied? Such a work deserves to be easy to find and be the first thing new or potential players find. Also the in-game help file update (can't remember who wrote this but it's a god send for finding NPC's or quick recipe/requirement look ups!)

Definitely agree with getting it stickied. It's an amazing help for people who don't know much about the intricacies of the game! I've learnt so much more since coming back than I ever knew in Esoma.

"HOUNDEYE"Definitely agree with getting it stickied. It's an amazing help for people who don't know much about the intricacies of the game! I've learnt so much more since coming back than I ever knew in Esoma. I too was around on esoma and there was hardly any information available. People tended to keep information to themselves in those days (I think), so people like MickyC are helping all of us. There are now others, like Flickthebean, who freely share information. It needs collating and made available to all.

My character was an absolute mess, I just didn't know it back then haha. Best thing my char ever had was full hero cos my guild were cool and helped me massively. That was when it had just came out too so was pretty quick to have it. Remember having to leg it through vod getting one hit by pretty much everything to get that unreadable akah essence that a few people in the guild farmed for me. Good times, but awful by what I know now.

In the end, relying on word of mouth is useful, but you cant beat a good read up or encyclopaedia and at least its always there.
Though the effort of the upkeep is something else - possibly? Unless it can be linked directly to the soma armory? One for Finito. It is a pain to alt and tab but I suppose how many people play this full screen anyway?

Could even just say what the item does which would give an indication as to how useful is and an inkling on value.
The guy who said this is utter waffle must be inbred to be so dumb. |
