What happened at the end of ESoma?

Hi,

I played Soma for ages, and then progressed to a variety of Pservers, and I had long stopped playing before ESoma. I don't remember why I stopped playing (or my stats etc when I did (although I would love to know)) but I was just wondering what happened at the end?

Why did it close down? What happened? Did Slither just come on one day and announce it was closing in a month? I vaguely remember reading something about duping going out of control - was this true? Did this fuck everything up?

I think GN went bust (or something) - how long was it before Soma closed down after this?


Basically... what happened?

Nerds got hold of the source client somehow and duped 5767567567567 upgrades and dropped them over TYT, and slither done no rewind and wouldn't accept outside help to fix. So it slowly died off and then GameNetwork closed ;o

You can get an idea by looking at the last screenshots I took on soma. I posted them on the somadev forum.

As you see can upgrade items, SP, barr etc were dropped like there's no tomorrow by random newb characters in multiples of 100s, 1000s etc, so I made a 13% eva set, everyone did but of course the game 'died' pretty much as soon as that happened.

Did they say why they wouldn't roll back / try to fix? Presumably the exploit wasn't fixed either.



My utter credit to everyone who grinded to a decent level in that game (like the people 80 / 90+. I definitely didn't have the stomach for it. I'm finding this slow, tbh!

Also, if you want a trip down memory lane, look at Lhurgoyf

There's a lot of shit on there, but some good pictures. Not much pre-Hero / pre WOTW patch though :(

Vortexx and o0gabo0ga both had better stats.

(o0ga i'm not certain about, Vortexx on the other hand, definitely had better stats)
