Im sure I was not in freemmode and I gained something like 2-3% in about 6-8 hours.. I also got response ingame from peoples that also find that gaining rested while AFK seems buggy. I think i've read this before and imo its a shame u have to log off to be 100% secure in your gains of rested.

Yea its a bug where you dont gain rested unless you relog sometimes. If you relog upon landing in town it will always charge.

If you use two clients sometimes the first one you have logged doesn’t gain rested at all. You should always reload when you get to town.
