All my characters, here and back on eSoma, have been Mages. For a change, I thought I'd create a pure bow one.
I now find that in order to keep my 1st aura working, I need some WIS, which means doing some INT. So, my question is this: How much WIS do I actually need to keep the 1st aura working at all times? I've got more than 20 WIS already, and it creeps down quite quickly. Hopefully, it's not like Nightmares where you need a hell of a lot to dispense with blue pots. Is the reality that I'm going to need to carry both red and blue pots for ages? Any and all advice much appreciated.

30 wis and casting 1st only when it runs out will be sufficient to hunt without mp pots.

the above sounds resonable.
Remember mp regen is also affected by the % of weight you are carrying. |

You will be wanting "Dodge" soon enough and that uses MP too.
I got used to carrying +100mp pots - you only need a couple per session. 8) Jac |

Surely you archers cant be that adverse to doing int!? 60 int/wis would provide enough regen?

Take your wis, minus 10(base wis) = peace regen value
peace regen value divided by 2 = battlemode value (rounding takes place for peace regen value) 1st Staff aura speeds up the regen tick Battlemode Over 70%bw = battlemode value every 44sec +staff aura = battlemode value every 28sec Under 70%bw = battlemode value every 28sec +staff aura = battlemode value every 14 sec Peace Mode Over 70%bw = battlemode value every 28sec +staff aura = battlemode value every 14sec Under 70%bw = peace value every 14sec +staff aura = 2x peace value every 14 sec Shifting in and out of peace mode sometimes resets the regen timer or makes you have a battlemode value if you try to be in peace a few seconds before the tick. What to take from this is 2wis=+1mp per regen tick mostly when your hunting, and also its sometimes worth it to stand for just over 14 seconds to recieve 2x value if under 70% with staff. More for the gm's: theres something else going on but sometimes theres an irregular peace or battlemode tick that takes place when it shouldn't for example when should be getting the opposite(not referring to the stance switching but even when stood in one or the other for a long time), and it throws the timer out by 10secs pr so, looks like: PM:peace mode tick, BM: battlemode tick 14secPM,14secPM,10secBM,14secPM,14secPM, 14secPM or viceversa. Dunno if its intended.

32 wis under 70%bw
54wis over 70%bw for 1st aura 40wis under 70%bw 70wis over 70%bw for 2nd aura Think those are right ;p Can get away with slightly less but they allow you to spam the aura on cooldown. |

Brains better than mine have answered my question, and for which I thank you. I don't even try to understand quiang's response. However, it seems to me that 'pure bow' is a myth. I'm well used to getting INT (200 on main) and that's dead easy. Are we saying that raising it to 60/70 INT and WIS is still okay to get 'pure bow'? Is there still enough leeway to max out dex?
Or, put another way, how much INT/WIS can I get without prejudicing my 'pure bow' (Max dex)? Continued advice most appreciated.

People who have done pure bow, healed for int to at least 50int so they dont spend xp%. Whether you want to do that is a personal choice as it depends on how much time you want to sacrifice. With the new level raise i think a lot of pure builds will become more hybrid as i'd be suprised if anyone just sits at 100int anymore. Pure bow will still probably happen but int will likely not be neglected. Most likely ppl will get at least 120-140int to not get one shot outside of thescenario of a mage getting lucky with procs.

I added my penultimate short paragraph after you responded (probably by seconds). You clearly understand this subject thoroughly. Can you comment on my addition? .

You could heal to 100int and be capped at that with 168dex 156str doing +50str mobs
If you didnt heal for int but did int mobs to 100 you'd be roughly 6 stats less than someone who did heal If you wanted more than 100int, then for roughly every 2 to 3 int you were gaining as you go thru the slows on nightmares you'd lose a potential +1 dex. Str is low due to the gains staying as bow at slower rates on blg, and why people are not doing pure bow as much now because you can gain a lot of str for sacrificing some dex. 168dex>157.9dex>152dex>144.4dex 156str >187.6str >200str >200str Potential to heal to 100 >120int 93int would get you enough to use 1st and 2nd aura as much as you like with 70wis, but it all depends how much you feel you need for pvp/bosses if you take part. Also keep in mind if you did pure bow to as close 168dex, there will be dex slows in the next level raise that will make it even harder. I dont see pure bow being that much viable in the next level raise, you'd still be in the slow rates of blg at 156str and the gap from other players would just get wider as its easier for them to catch dex up than it is for you to catch up str.

Qiang the info you give is brilliant mate.
Rona a quick head up, you can heal to 60int really quickly. The best way to do this is to pop a character on merc beach with 4-5 gazer on him. Then take a load of mp pots on both chars and heal away. I healed to 73int on merc beach on a different character and it didn’t take long at all.

"TYRESE"Qiang the info you give is brilliant mate. I've sort of been doing this on Merc Beach. But I wasn't healing. My 200 INT main was tanking gazers and I was fireballing them with my bowchar. This cost me a whole level to get to where I am now. I have little experience of healing for INT/WIS, but started off at TYT on the bugs, then 'graduated' to Merc. To clear up a point: I'm under the impression that gaining INT by healing a bug tanker is limited to 70 INT. Perhaps this is wrong or different rules apply outside of the bug world. So, my plan now (and please tell me if I've got it wrong) is to get my main back on Merc Beach and tank gazers while my bowchar heals the tank. The gazers won't actually die, so presumably my XP won't go up as it did when fireballing them. You good people have been extremely helpful and educational.
