You can get 1-2 better on a long sword with basic mats, but not on a hard leather or scaled top unless you use bones, the only armour you get increased stats on are the ones that use all 4 spaces and you need to use better mats. I have 63 armour skill at the moment. And only 48 weapons skill.

Was able to make a 3-3 def intense shoes with regular mats but i dont think you could get higher if using red leather and strong cloth.
