We all know we don't get any new players, believe there was a big push on steam a while back, not sure how this works don't use it
But tbh nobody wants to download a game and get told to go punch bugs for 110 hours (credit to Jon haha) before they can even start levelling Probably a lot of work, but a fun start to the game would maybe bring in a new player base I'm not sure what but there's more inventive people here than me who may have ideas

You are right Tyro and although people may say you don't need to do con early on the game, it is encouraged even by players that know you don't have too.
Perhaps there should be a chain of 3-5 quests that give you con up to 26 and a nice intense mid weapon of your choice at the end? The chain of quests should fit the mobs hunted of course too for a melee or mage char. Remaining con be trained?

A quest chain that takes you through to say lvl 20 with str or int gear and a decent weapon, consisting of kill quests and fetch quests to gain the exp etc would be beneficial.
The reward for each quest alongside items could be +1.0 con or something, culminating in the player ended at 22 / 26. Would have to figure out how to gate it so ppl at 26 con now cannot use it to get 30 etc. Somas biggest hurdle for new players is definitely the initial push to decent con and i'd say 30-ish in the desired primary stat, as it has always been a bit ambiguous and indirect.

"TYROZET"But tbh nobody wants to download a game and get told to go punch bugs for 110 hours (credit to Jon haha) before they can even start leveling Con has always been a pain in the arse should be able to get it from quests but tbh this is a nostalgic game. The only people really interested are those still playing or those who have played before and might come back if something relevant happened. There's too many good looking regularly updated games on the market to be able to pull fresh players who have never touched the game. Not being negative, just my opinion.

Well that's what I'm saying, getting new players here will be hard, I had a mate who started dsoma told him to run out of town and keep working up, think he lasted 3 hours and asked what the point was and left
Only way to get new players is to make the game beginning seem like there's a purpose, without it just giving everyone everything for nothing as that's not what soma is about Some first level quests or a story line of soma or something I dunno Just e nice for new players to come as will keep game fresh

Agree with you, had 2 mates start and quit after an hour, they just need enough time to get hooked like all of us :)
Also I think con should be able to be levelled at any stage with a 0 xp mob, means that you can do it later once you know what its all about. Appreciate there are people who have done 30 con early, me included, but its tough if you want the player base to grow.

There are some real quality of life changes than can be made.
Firstly I think con could be already at 30, or make con an awful lot quicker. The healing for int I think could be done in freemode, so for example you hunt with your bow in freemode to farm for items etc and you gain int that way, the same rates as if you were healing though, atleast that way people won’t have the need to hog bugs or go afk. Make lower end items more readily available, the npc’s have a small selection of what’s needed but I think banded, plate, gold and dark should all be at an Npc. This goes for weapons I think up to BOF tier across the board. There is enough people about ingame to help lower level players out with information etc and there is a couple of really good guides out there which help to no end. I think when people browse the forum and see these pots regarding ‘perfect chars’ and the need to spend 100+ hours on con and then roughly 700hours healing and then hunt mobs using two clients for the best gains which for a brand new player with 0 upgrades gear could take another 1000 hours must be offputting to say the least. The perfect char route is optional ofc but there are ways it could be made slightly easier for new players imo.

I think if you want to make a perfect char and spend a longer time doing it then that option should be available, I think an easy route and a hard route keeps things interesting
I miss that aspect of dsoma now as you can do whatever you want and still get the same stats, makes levelling so boring, there use to be an excitement when you opened F9 to see how you'd done at level up Certainly though if new players could come and have something to do first other then immediately punch for con or go poke inguits for 6 hours might keep people here who stumble across it

Think the problem is the player base for soma tends to be age 30 ish
And people just don't have the tolerance for the unknown. Can remember watching a video of soma on YouTube and he lituly had no idea what to do, walked everywhere Spose its the same reason some humans have never played dsoma Tho there does seem to be the odd player that has returned to soma knocking about atm, just need to keep them rather than chase them all away

I do agree with keeping the option to level slower and get a better character. But there has been a lot of soft spines people moan about it over the years and say oh I didn’t do that and he’s got 4 more dex than me, it’s unfair. It’s not but they don’t see it like that. New players need a helping hand to compete vs 4-5 year old gear kicking about on this server. If that means they get the perfect char first time without the hassle it might just help people remain

The game needs to adapt to the modern market before it even gets listed on steam. The game was greenlit before Greenlight turned into the new service, so its just a case of waiting for Dan/ Finito.
Their is not a single chance in the world that you will have 1 person in the mmo society of today's standards that will sit their punching a mob for 100 hours or more, knowing that they havent even started on anything but con. (which should be quest based) Soma is not ready for steam in the state that it is in. Even with the patch coming up, their is way too many factors that have not been considered or fixed. Some of which: - the huge gap from cap and new comers - no scaled rates based on level - no revision of existing rested exp due to the fact their is a option to purchase rested as a donation - no optional 2nd wotw or events where player stats can be scaled so everyone can enjoy anything without being 1 - 2 hit ) Instead we opted for a double rates event recently. I re installed last friday because I just recently had some spare time. I went from lv 50-57 on DOUBLE the actual rate. I cant even imagine how slow and how long it is going to take me to get to existing lv cap. IMO I feel like I would probs have to give up work, leave my kids so I can concentrate for months whilst purchasing a shit load of rested exp pots just to play a realistic catchup. I am likely wrong in some aspect, but this is my opinion from a returning player. I hope I last longer this time instead of leaving within a few months.
