The most ideal and realistic market that this game has ANY chance in is on PC/ Mobile cross-platform. Similar old school mmo's have done this and have made alot of revenue from it. Simply because it caters to that audience (people who simply just dont have 10 hours a day to sit on a chair)
Runescape is now coming to mobile where it is expected to be the next big thing. I honestly think that is the best way for this game. Whether or not Finito has limitations to the above regard is another story. I would love to hear Dan/ Finito's input on this.

"ILEE"The game needs to adapt to the modern market before it even gets listed on steam. The game was greenlit before Greenlight turned into the new service, so its just a case of waiting for Dan/ Finito. The rates from 1-90 have been increased a few times, They were increased scaled just recently where lowest mobs got a 50% boost and highest for a 4% boost Exp pots have been given a few bumps in the exp that they give out. However i do think the store donated ones should give more than the ones you can get ingame from shop and bugs. Or have 2 types or rested experience. rested 1 is gained as normal 0-100% rested 2 is given by quest/pots and can be filled up unlimited. if you run out of rested 1 it will start using rested 2 exp. this way you wont ever lose any of the purchased rested if say you use ur pots then need to go out. and your logged out exp would have covered the pots that you use.

Their is not a single chance in the world that you will have 1 person in the mmo society of today's standards that will sit their punching a mob for 100 hours or more, knowing that they havent even started on anything but con. (which should be quest based)
Soma is not ready for steam in the state that it is in. Even with the patch coming up, their is way too many factors that have not been considered or fixed. Some of which:
- the huge gap from cap and new comers
- no scaled rates based on level
- no revision of existing rested exp due to the fact their is a option to purchase rested as a donation
- no optional 2nd wotw or events where player stats can be scaled so everyone can enjoy anything without being 1 - 2 hit )
Instead we opted for a double rates event recently. I re installed last friday because I just recently had some spare time. I went from lv 50-57 on DOUBLE the actual rate. I cant even imagine how slow and how long it is going to take me to get to existing lv cap.
IMO I feel like I would probs have to give up work, leave my kids so I can concentrate for months whilst purchasing a shit load of rested exp pots just to play a realistic catchup.
I am likely wrong in some aspect, but this is my opinion from a returning player. I hope I last longer this time instead of leaving within a few months.

I think if the game was opened up to Android / Maybe IOS, True Cross Platform, I know that's huge work for a Full Redesign in HTML5 or something along the lines it could bring in a new audience
Just not sure how realistic that is time and money wise |

ILee as you're a stand up guy from what I know.
I agree about con. And is heavily one of the reasons why I wont make a 2nd char. As for majority of your post, I think ultimately it just depends what your playing Soma for. I think those who aren't capped by now (me included) enjoy the gathering (whilst levelling) and farming your own gear. Just like traditional MMOs even now do. This and some other games, even a couple of current-ish ones, still are somewhat grind based. This just happens to be a grind just to level. Should it be more enjoyable? Definitely, and could it? Definitely but should the grind exist? Yes. If you're in a rush to cap, like i've seen some players do, you just end up being disappointed or a bit frustrated. If you want to compete for the high end PVP and make a mark, that involves a lot of failed matts / luck and some clever trading. And frankly, will take a lot of time to do, yes. For me, scaling monsters to your level would be a huge change in this game but it would need to be limited to the intention of getting people back to Trolls, Raptors, Kobolds, Zombies and even the dungeons. I think we'd al happily accept the 50+ stat track then more easily ;o

Agreed Fox, I play Soma because it has such a strong community.
We have our bubbly players, our bad guys that we love to hate, our cowboys, our funny peeps etc. but the thing is, we all know each other through Soma very well and for me, it's the people that make Soma. It's not about the destination, it's about the journey and you guys have made it a fun one indeed over the years.

Con to act like wis. Slowly increases automatically when training str, as wis does with int.
Mage's in other games have always been recognised to have lower hp compared to other builds anyway - the sacrifice to balance the high MA firepower. Could apply to increasing while crafting also, to reflect the bag weight increase bonuses. Have it still cap at 30 (Just an idea)

"ILEE" Not complaining, but I had 3 devil archers time 4th on me and was insta killed. Even capped it still happens. That said, a capped Human mage with decent proc gear can occasionally 1 shot a devil if they get someone else to weaken, so swings and roundabouts

"FOXO_STORE" Give it a month or so after capping and you'll just make a 2nd toon as farming mags can get boring very quickly. So in this regard Mr. Fox is correct, you end up frustrated and a bit bored

What lupi said in the discussion hall thread about double drops. I don't know how to quote it here on my phone.
Basically everything needs to be made a bit easier and user friendly to be able to enjoy end game content. |

runescape just redeveloped and brought its self to android i think this will be the single biggest draw of new players to the game, what are the chances of this ever being on the horizon for development, i appreciate it would be a long hard task, but is it something on the radar at all? or is it highly unlikely, -Cap

I thought Runescape was programmed in Java, which android is hence makes it easier to make it into a android app.
Soma is programmed in some form of C language I suspect meaning it probably would mean a re-write of the game in Java plus you are going to have to make it touch-optimized. It's a great idea and would bring in lots of new players but realistically I don't think it's going to happen at this time as the money and resources required would be immense even if it was possible. As there is only 1 developer working on this game for free in his spare time it would take his time away from maintaining the game/developing new content.

Maybe one day someone can be rich enough to pay full time developers just for the love of it, dont care about the loss :)... We could get an estimate and crowdfund it

Can convert C# apps to all mobile formats using Xamarin which I've done before. I think the hardest part will be rewriting the old code into a modern language like C#.
Edit - Just clarifying that rewriting C++ to C# is alot easier than C++ to Java. |
