Hello all :)
So I'm currently an (almost) pure bow user with 119 skill, 68 str and 69 dex. My str and dex have remained very close together throughout my time in Soma so far. My original thinking was that since skill is relatively slow on this server, having a single weap would be really useful for the extra skill. However, people keep telling me that I'll need to do axe at some point, so that I do more damage, otherwise gains will become too slow. It's certainly true that str and dex are already rather slow. But I've never been sure about the logic behind this argument. Yes, if I have more str, then my gains will be quicker when I do dex. However, I also have to invest the time to separately train str, and I'll have lower skill while I do it. How does the extra time invested in separately training str compare to the time saved when training dex? (I tend to feel that dex is more important long-term anyway.) And how does this decision effect the stats per level I'll be getting? Opinions? Thoughts? Thanks in advance.

People don't like too much of the same in soma it's boring so they use axe too move on quicker mainly, personally i use axe/bow however if i started again id go pure bow till i couldn't bare it anymore... i feel the more str you have the slower dex is but i don't have proof to back it up maybe it's just str is so fast compared to dex :)

Now I think about it, if dex gains depend on your str (and the mob's str), then wouldn't it follow that you would get more stats per % with lower str? Even if perhaps axe/bow was quicker for time.

Say you get dex every 7% you would do axe for a lvl and back to bow you would get dex every 5% but then it would take more % too get str (not actual %'s btw :P) so works out the same really but id just grind bow aslong as you can if i were you going bk to bow for PvE after using axe is the most unmotivating thing in soma unless you're one of those freaks who play 18 hrs a day

why does dex stay so close to str shouldn't the distance between the two increase over lvls?

My advice to you, would be to bow until you get to 75 str (at this str, you will leave wraiths).
So try to get to 85 dex or something. Then bang out the axe. |

If you can bare palus for a loooong time then pure bow is actually pretty doable. Stay at wraiths till 75-80 dex then go to dws till 85ish dex. From then on, you should be dexy enough for palus to be easy enough. The main problem always seem to be post palus as shanis and blg hit for so much and have such high dex that they need good str to be able to take them.

Thanks for the advice so far :) I actually want a lot of diamonds, and so was planning on staying at Palus for a loooooong time anyway, so that works out nicely. :)
No warmess/warban though? Still looking for opinions on whether doing pure bow is faster or slower time-wise or %-wise.

If hero boots were how they were originally you could take shanis at 80 dex one at a time

If you aren't leveling of rested and you plan to do Axe anyway there's little point delaying doing strength once you are past wraiths. if you aren't planning on ever doing Axe you might want to switch weapons much earlier than you thought.

Mess/ban are also good, so are sand valks now the spawn is bigger. I doubt pure bow is faster than axe/bow though as dex is so much slower than str that you will be waiting a long time for str. It would be a lot faster using a training axe even.
I would still do pure bow though as dex is still king and you can always do it alongside lots of interest so you always do bow on rested exp.

i was mostly bow with 92 bow and 36 axe, 68 str and 65 dex but found dex gains at over 10% per .1 dex so decide to do some more int and str (axe) before doing dex again hoping that being higher level after str and int gains it will bring the % per .1 dex down. but seems ive got side tracked with get con finished before i stop leveling on rest from crafting. still not got sr :(
P.S. when i decide to do str again with axe i gain str at every 1-2%
