Feedback thread #2 - Dsoma - New player / New char experience

Author Content Date
Second thread, to review the new player / new character experience for Devil Soma - Level 0~60

This wasn't really talked about but I want to cover it anyway, as Devil Soma needs a lot of love still. To make it more manageable, we should try to, where able, make Dsoma a little more Hsoma like...but at the same time, let it be different as it was designed to be.

Its interesting, if you notice some of the things they did almost the exact opposite to Hsoma.

Anyway.

-Issue - Pande town is often empty, the NPCs are static and they give no dialog in comparison to Thousand Year Town, no rumours, no stories or very little. Thousand year Town has NPCS that wander, that disappear if clicked, there is even mobile shops. Even dirty humans are barely mentioned. It just doesnt feel that nice a place to idle. There is only really one town and so there isn't really a border village to explore or a 'second base' to open pay to open a warehouse in.

-Solution - This home town badly needs a transformation. GMs had planned to remove the burning chasms that make the place full of islands to make it easier to navigate. It is needed.

-It also needs a roaming peddler bones (?) and, a weirdo NPC on the edge of the town just like Swordsman Madoru selling
-It needs a western entrance/exit. to the main land
-Rock Paper Scissors NPC should move to be a bit more obvious
-What about a heads or tails gambling NPC using RNG (...:p)
-Remove chasms between shops
-Trading items for weapons / armor was a nice change when Devil Soma came out and I like it but it really is hampered by the Gem trader being hard to get to and are in complete opposite directions to the Weapon and Armor vendors and in order to remember what I need to trade, I think a lot of people need to write it down - not good. It actually becomes annoying even. Just move the mass gem trader to middle of town in mean time.
-Barr just doesn't come easy as a low level and repairs are not cheap. Its well known about selling special gems for yellow gems and then selling to the shop for barr but its assumed you know that but I dont think that would occur to many people. Make it so yellow gems drop a lot more, in place, in some respects of special gems so that is a bit more obvious to people that it sells for barr.
-Make the Town Cryer a devil
-Some NPCS are too far out the way / hidden. Hasra, Onzu... move them more into the town. We don't need more Dohwans.
-Let some NPCS 'wander' around.
-Too far to sell crafted items (other side of town - quite a run compared to TYT)
-Couple of leaf less trees in a small orchard would be nice too.

Yay or Nay?

Issue - Low drop rates

Again mentioned by lots of people in general but this is very noticeable at a low level if you have played Hsoma. It plagues this world in particular and its a sign of not many items being in existence. Devil Soma was rushed on release and then never really got the chance to be developed. It's evidenced by lots of monsters have seemingly very 'incomplete' drop files.

Solution - Low drop rates

A couple of simple things could be put in place and nothing to upset balance but give 'content' that intrigues and engages people.

-Low end upgrade items / bloods (they would be actually new items to Devil Soma). Skill-less upgrade
-There is no low level accessories outside of the couple of noobie shop ones and they don't drop anywhere. Create some, put it into the loot file. Instead it makes new players try and get devil friends which are still expensive.
-Increase chances of armor / weapon tags for low / mid tier gear
-Needs another couple more armor sets (Black Banded? Green / Red Plate?). Again to slip in between existing low / mid armors.
-Spiked and Hardening are completely relied upon to be hunted at Enslaved beasts due to their drop rates which is insane.
-Dread is easily obtained in comparison to Spiked and Hardening when it should be the other way around.
-Low end bosses - all seem to use magic and can easily kill you and Devil Soma players start out with very low HP and terrible, terrible MD. Modify Enflamed Fireworm, Giant Spider Queen, Mordant Master to do a lot less magic damage.
-New Hwan 'settlement' (in longer term project)

SpoilerShow

-E.g Discolored Egg = Weaker Small White egg. Oily Bloody, Spotted blood, Pungent Blood (MD upgrade, 1~0 ATT upgrade, low end poison proc). It doesn't matter if they are not useful to end game remember, its for low levels to play with and add content. I would go further than just 4 items though.
Add this to basically all drop files from Tilleks -> all the way up to Evolved Beasts and Paladins
-Add small gems to all mobs in HWAN (since its been designed to be like the TYT dungeon in some respects...)
-Make Hardening / Spiked drop regularly from normal mobs when you actually need them - Sedleks, Tilleks, Fireworms on a much higher basis.
-Starting weapons are so important and with limited ability to get crafted ones, and the population being smaller - a much higher chance to get Rare~Intense until 75 skill weapons would be great, maybe they could even carry a random attribute like MD on top too, just to spice it up. Cannot be fully repaired though.
-Need to remove a couple of the duplicated skins that are one after another at a low leve for some weapon classesl. Monthly weapon skin replacement competition. GM chooses a duplicate skin to replace.
-Some of the weapon skill gaps are pretty long winded for certain class speeds and I think in reality knowing you'll get your end game weapon (forgetting Negamare) by maybe 60-70... this world needs more weapons in between the existing ones... and the skill requirements can slowly go up a little.
-Aura NPCs only ever want items... maybe this would be more fun if a couple was made into small quests that go along with your training.
-New access pieces 'Melodic charm' - Necklace 2~2 magic attack, 'Hate Filled Ring' 0~6 attack(25%), Beastical Gaze Earring (1% Paralyze proc). Again doesnt matter if its not end game, its fun, new content to use and explore.

I put a lot into this because I've levelled 3 chars to 44, 67 and 73 but I think they are simple things that can be put readily into game and make big differences.

Yay or nay?

Issue - Not enough chain quests

Well there isn't really.....any chain quests with a story in them, not that theres many in Human Soma.

People like a sense of direction, gentle prods go a long way. All content is positive.

Solution - Not enough chain quests

Lets just do it. GM's can ask for a monthly chain quest to be put together and its voted on, they stipulate how many steps the chain quest is, what its aimed towards (tier of player).

By doing this, we are adding something, it can reward a unique item you otherwise cannot get, and gives more excuses for people to get away from the grind... and give longevity.

Yay or nay

good list :) +1 all round

a more appealing home town would be nice, i know they were removed but the equivalent of hsoma bugs are good, even when u get people just skilling on them, or repeatedly killing many hoping for a few rested potions, more people milling around always is nice to see, just like how town never looks as good as straight after pvp events when everyone is warped to the same place

we need a heavy spawn of brics as well to make some quests viable, the tyt spawn near e wh is insane but exactly what is needed for killing 10k of them, dsoma one is impossible

personally i think the level 100 requirement for world shout is pointless now, either raise it to 120+ or just open it to everyone, it is toggle'able anyway so people who don't want to see it can turn it off (is there really a need for the 2 worlds not to be able to read each others messages? with such a small community and many having chars in both worlds they aren't separate games like they once were) opening global shout allows this cross communication to all while allowing normal chat to be unseen so useful at wotw etc.
