As a devil, after you have got your strong set and spiked helm, the only thing that special gems are used for is to change into yellow gems and sell.
Special gems drop from pretty much everything in conti, and after a hunt you will find yourself standing in town for 10mins just clicking the gems and changing them. I don't suppose you could just make special gems have a base vendor price of 400barr so we don't have to do this tedious task every hunt?
