Not sure if it's the same for everyone but since the original smiley patch was introduced this happens to boss notifications in F12:

I have the same thing Mat.
Also if you have your wh, or other Npc window open, and you buy something where the mini text window opens (eg quantity you want to buy/take out of wh), all the writing at the top of the screen (guild chat, guard shouts) etc, hide behind the open wh/shop window on the left hand side of the screen. Hope you can understand what I mean.
