I always got about a 75% success rate, but at sometime around 12 skill there seems to be a drop in the success rate. This does not seem to improve that much until about 22 skill. This could be something that is only associated with potion crafting though. Also, the success rate is based on the item you are crafting and the skill required to craft it.
