Edit: Windows XP SP3 is the minimal requirement and a patch has been released that is Windows XP SP3 compatible.

@XLPINERO and @POISON are you running Windows XP?

I'm running Windows XP and had the same problems as Xlpinero and Poison, also sorted by the manual download advice you gave above.

There is a client patch available now (version 42) that should solve the issues (if you are running Windows XP SP3).

If you are running Windows XP, SP1, or SP2 you will need to update to SP3.
