Joymax developed it, it was sold in Korea, Game Network in Italy bought the EU rights and made a clone of the game and advertised it on Game Network in the UK presented by KillerKat.

It was a success but for some reason the game was updated like only once with the WoTW/Dsoma patch.

Lots of problems with the game and secretly Game Network was unable to get proper contact with the Korean developers, they didn't give a shit, so the game just kinda died out and was left to rot.

Oh forgot, Gorthol one of the GMs had his computer hacked by some forum, Rage-something. Anyway they stole server files and hacked the game to hell, causing all sorts of chaos, our GMs were powerless. The hacker found all sorts of porn on his PC too. hehe

though someone found the domain where the server files where hosted and just downloaded them, in which case the server was hosted with the same 4 letter password which they used and made a GM char (as well as having access to all the accounts)

at least that's how iv been told, but could be wrong

and we had more than 1 update

we had GVW update which changed the current normal cloths look as well as the GM/adviser robes

then we had the WotW update which added the devil race (also added in the Monster soma but we didn't have the client in which to make a character which someone found out that they could use the Chinese one to get on mob soma on esoma

Yes the files were on an old Wizgate ftp which was public. MentaL from rage zone had the first server purely due to Mr Finito himself. When all of us were about to give up on getting the files working he got it sorted (possibly with help from a guy named Mman for the proxy).

As for the reason the euro server got shut down. Philkills sent out a working source to a guy named Kingkooper that realised that if you send a craft table a negative value it would give you the amount back. Hence why we saw people with 9999 delight tabs towards the end of the euro server. Slither (the euro GM) was unable to fix this as he was effectively a community mod (myself and Phil worked with him, helping him out just before the source code release).

Proteus I believe the company was called "comnjoy" if I'm not mistaken.

It's really quite amazing the fact soma has surived today and that is almost entirely due to Finitos efforts.

I remember hearing something about esoma but I'm not 100% if it's legit, hopefully someone can shed some light. If you typed someone's username backwards as the password it worked. Any truth is that?

There was a relly exciting moment when Games Network combined all their forums on one site (gnonline or something) and bought the rights to Droiyan Online and it looked as if they were giving a shit. But then they didn't.

Main problem was being too cheap/lazy/poor to hire people to work updates and patch fixes into the game. When you go years without any new content you end up boring players into quitting. They paid Slither for a few hous work a week if I remember, and he brought out the Abyss patch (nobody mentioned that yet) in his own time - I think?

Feel like the game could have had the lifespan of Runescape if it had been handled well in the early days.

I remember the abyss map . Used to do con on ghouls there afk on esoma lol they were perfect for it. Don't see why this map never got utilised on this server although I'm sure finito had his reasons.
