Football! / Politics!

I live in Scotland, my dads Scottish, my wife Scottish.
I was born in England.

I'm not like a huge football fan I hate the money involved but I'm intrigued by a match as much as anyone else.

It really annoys me to read Scottish folk so bitter as far as England's progression goes, I just don't get it. Yet we are currently a United Kingdom - all be it not for much longer!

What's the point in the hate really?

I know rivalry has always been there but I swear to god when I was young if a team was doing well be that Scotland or England I was happy and supported them; it actually brought people together...

Now it seems it's another thing to pull us apart.

Let's get this clear the government fucked things up for both countries.

Scottish independence was brought about by a wee fat man with a set of ideas and it was voted down by the people because we wanted to stay in the UK and stay in the EU...
It stands to reason that now Scotland will go its own way.

I urge people to try forget about the fucked up politics, scaremongering, immigrant hate.
We are all people - remember that young lad laying dead on the beach who came over on a boat trying to find sanctuary? I couldn't continue to live if that was my son and my life. Those people in Calais need help.

I'm scared, I struggle to keep my little family going - we ain't entitled to any benefits at all really but all we want is a quiet life; I'm terrified we all get caught up in this mess - don't let the political party's like UKIP paint a picture of Britain on the brink of civil war.
We can vote to separate all kinds of things but we need to stick together.

Nice post.

Seems to be a lot of frustration in the world currently. It's up to us to try and relieve that.

sorry buddy but once again folks on the mainland seem to forget about the rest of us. It is not just Scotland vs England. we are welsh and Irish and Scottish and English.

In NI, we are getting screwed by this as well, we only started taking down our border towers and we could be seeing something like it go bk up.

Not even mentioning Gibraltar, who have already had the spanish breathing down their necks for years and holding people and items in customs to fuck with them...

I may be wrong, but aren't Scotland in a whole load of debt at the moment? And the EU have various guidelines a country must meet in order to be accepted into the EU, one of which is regarding the level of debt in comparison to GDP a country can have.

I believe Scotland's debt level is currently well above the limit set to join the EU.

In addition aren't England also funding the free Universities as well as other services in Scotland, something the EU wouldn't do, and we're also helping to pay down the debt. If Scotland leave the UK it seems your debt is only going one way.

Just something I read, I'm by no means an expert on the subject.

Interesting times though. Don't buy into all the negative propaganda spewed by the media. Things aren't as bad as they're making out.

My prediction:

We will remain part of the single market
We will keep the free movement of individuals (perhaps with a bit more control, but effectively I doubt much will change)
No money will be saved because we will have to pay fees to be part of the single market
We will be free to make trade deals with countries outside the EU, tariff free.
The pound will (/already is) recover
The economy will recover

Nothing will change for normal people like us.

All of that is true but nothing has changed because nothing has changed.
All we've had is a vote - nothing else. No action.
And there won't be -
Who wants to go down in history as the guy who broke up the EU?
Could have good ramifications, could be very bad.

We aren't out of the EU and we are not until article 50 is brought up in the House of Commons.
Cameron quit, he's PM till October - he won't be filing it.
Does the next guy have the guts?
The will of the people is one thing but a politician with balls is another ;p

So that's why the £ is recovering - our politicians don't have the guts to file the act of the people.

think a lot of ppl would be just as happy with a better deal for the Uk

the Uk main weapon, is time, the longer they can keep this up, then Europe may final be up to compromising

so id say Cameron will be after another deal with Europe, once he has that then they might have another referendum

saying that I also believe the UK can be great with out Europe, how long that would take is another question

I agree Jaheira - but there's 15 million+ people who I think want action and expected it to be automatic.
It was all very badly handled.
