Hey, After a 15 year absence of soma i am really enjoying the game again and think it would be great to boost new players and even get old ones back. Even though i am "2 years" behind i feel the game has a lot to offer for low level players with all the bosses etc.
Does anyone have experience on getting the game on things like Steam? Or other platforms that people go to to download games to play? I think with a little marketing it could really help boost players. I study and run all my business through internet marketing i.e facebook, google ads etc and am happy to lend a hand with that side. We could also have a "fund" pot for advertising as well if people want to donate to this. Thoughts?

We don't get a huge amount of donations at the moment ... it rarely covers hosting. I think you have the right idea with SEM and PPC. However, ideally it's something we wouldn't want to manage - so it's great you want to take that on.
Glad you're enjoying the game. Hopefully some fun things to come soon.

Why not charge 30quid to unban an account 1 per email. Watch them donations fly in. Obviously have guides rules put in place.

Facebook group has a very large amount of members, I used to pay for ads on that page and had some information from fin that UC did increase slightly with the ads running. Activity on the page helps show the game is full of life and small updates keeps people intrested even when they're not playing.
It's a shame no one updates it anymore ...

I may be wrong, but I don't think it costs anything to send a marketing email to people you have contacts for?
Being realistic the game isn't getting any new players. Soma is 15 years old and new MMO's come out every month. The people that play soma will be the ones that have always played soma. IMO 'we' need to focus on getting back people that have quit. There have been some constructive ideas in the other thread as to how to do it. With the upcoming changes (not just the immediate patch, but the other ones in the pipeline with cap increase etc.) I firmly believe a marketing email or two detailing the changes would bring a fair few players back.

The main off-putter for old players returning, is that they will be so far behind with gear, that they wont be able to contend with the mega stuff that is ingame today.
That's probably the main issue. If that could be adressed on the cap+ update, new armour, weps and accessories, then every1 can start a new gearing up slog, and players be on an even keel ( ish) ..well at least a chance to catch up Imo .. still need levels and stats to be gained. That way mega gear aint so crucial if u can PLAY and keep getting stronger. Players that levelled to 100 qwik, played on the premise that stats were crucial, and the gear wasnt the main priority. And thats where things are falling down atm. Farming for hours on end to better ur equips wasnt for every1. Also with the100's of players that have left , and they proly the '' oldtimers'' that love the game.. the priority should be getting them back rather than concentrating on new players. A busier game environment would attract them naturally anyway

@cyrox it does cost quite a bit to send emails through a service that can handle unsubscribes etc (legal req for us not to get shafted).
There's around 20704 accounts created (say we halve it by removing duplicate emails etc). Then we're looking at 10k emails it would be about $200 (or $75 a month). Although if someone finds an alternative I'd be happy to create and send an email out when the new patch is here.

Emailing could be huge, also i dont know but does anyone have the original soma database? That must have 1000's of enails from the orignal esoma server.
There are softwares that you can use or people you can hire to do this for you. If you get an excel sheet with them on that makes it a lot easier. Could do a "re-activation" email and event, maybe mini event dropping rare low level items? Also maybe something for low level like a mini gvw but level cap 70 once a week? I dont know how that woukd work but something "war/pvp" based but just for low levels. Then when you go over a certain level you play with the big boys! Again am happy to help with the marketing just let me know

Maybe just filter out the accounts with lev 70+ players ..send out an email to them, tho id guess many pop on the homepage to have a gander every now and again.
Also when ur sure whats going into the updates, mayb put all the ideas and whats gona happen onto the news section so its there for all to see .. in advance of them happening.. a few pics of new armours/events/weps or whatever u gonna include in it... explaining the ''joys of returning to the new improved Soma'' kinda thing . No cheaper advertising, than doing ur own on here !

Donation store, 1 time deal to buy back hero armour. £5 an item whole set for £15.
It's not game breaking, it's not pay to win, and if you get 25/30 players doing it you have your total. Easy and hassle free. |

Asking for money isn't a great selling point..certainly for old players returning.... mayb replacing every1's missing/broken hero would be a good start. Or make the essence quests active again till u got a full set

If you donate 5£ you get a hero piece exchange scroll which then gives you an option trade mele for mage. Wud be a start. Also the replace thingy might work. And what defo wud work - a hero weapon that wud let new/low lvls join and look into it.
