Helping get new players...

"ISYLVER"@cyrox it does cost quite a bit to send emails through a service that can handle unsubscribes etc (legal req for us not to get shafted).

There's around 20704 accounts created (say we halve it by removing duplicate emails etc). Then we're looking at 10k emails it would be about $200 (or $75 a month).

Although if someone finds an alternative I'd be happy to create and send an email out when the new patch is here.

Aweber does a free trial for I think like 50k emails. I don't know any emails service that costs what you're saying. Even Mailchimp is much much cheaper.

SEO won't work the problem with the game is the grind and the difficulty understanding the game. It is just not new player friendly. If you go the SEO route you need a proper process for converting them from a Google search into a contributing user. Also, what keywords would you target? The competition is high, you need to start a blog of sorts. It is a lot of work and not worth the effort.

You're better marketing Youtube if you're so interested in getting new players. SEO is just not viable.

The email list is going to be the easiest and best way to get players back.

But you need to give them something to come back for...

Like i said if you convert this to a file that aweber or something similar uses (i personally use aweber in my business) then it will be very easy to do a mail shot.

And yes aweber do a free trail, but even if its needed to get some funds to pay or it for a few months, i am sure some edit on the donation store will help, something new, that isnt over powered but people will be willing to throw £5 in each to have.

I think, getting ppl to stay is going to be the hardest challenge. Word of mouth, ppl looking in to see whats going on.. i don't see a massive problem with a substantial amount of players returning.
If those returning players stay , a busier game will naturally attract more
....which leads into the question ( apart from ppl with not much time... and the grind being a problem )
why have ppl left soma?
Some reasons will be addressed im sure, with new content in the update :)

This is why i think a couple of more things in game for lower levels maybe thing GVW for low levels, or GDG what ever it is right now just for level 80 and below.

I.e take away the big hitter with crazy stats for something other wise its just not for people who now have carrer, kids etc.

I accept that it will take me 2 years to even be able to do anything at a gvw. But i do enjoy playing which helps.

I think this could really turn the server around if done correct with email shot, things for lower levels, and re-activation events
