The "Apple" and "WoW" effect...

1
Author Content Date
Been thinking from a User count view point about the next update.

And companies and games that are successful year after year and keep getting there customers coming back, do ONE thing very well...

They are consistent with when the new "thing" is out and it keeps people coming back for more as its always a "little" bit better...

So...my idea is this...

Every year around this time, the game will get an update including certain things each year that we will looking forward to...

E.g.
+10 on level cap (so year after year this can increase like WoW - I would also make this so it will take a good 6-9 months to hit those 10 levels to keep people hitting cap again
New items
New skins
New mobs
New events etc

Nothing "major" but something to keep people coming back for more...

So just like apple and how they release a new phone on the same day every 2 years with a update every other year...or how WoW increases level cap just enough to keep the players playing. I think if there is more of a "plan" with the games future it will keep people engaged.

along these lines as you say, being given some feedback from GM about what they are working on would be awesome just so we know whats going on, being kept in the dark is not great for a game where people are getting frustrated at the lack of progress they can make in game, for example the new patch that is being worked on, why can't fin or ghost post on here just to say that they still have a few bugs to work on before they release the patch, it would help rather then saying it will be out by the weekend, then 4 weeks later it will be out later this week.

Takes at least 6 months for them to get free time to do it, then another 6 months to actually do it and implement it.

Got a while to go yet

A huge thing your missing from your comparison is that the companies you mentioned actually get paid. Everything this server gets is charity work
