Idea: Donation armor change

It would appear that some people are in the know with regard to armour colour changes. I understand that the change is for the users interface only.

How about doing the following - £5 for a permenant armor change that would be reflected on the server so everybody sees it.

For instance I have a full bone set that I have done all my upgrades on. I do it myself or ask my friend to edit the armor using the application programs. My files consists of making the armor bight pink.

I pay £5 and the armor is specific to me.

Would this be possible, for instance give my set of armor a unique number. Apply the colour change to that unique armor. So this set is mine and customized to me and me only.

Thoughts?

All textures are held client side, so you can change the colour of your armour but nobody else would see it.

Quite bad at describing this next part, but server side calls your armour etc.

So if for example Elite Gargoyle Fighters and Gargoyle Shaman share the same skin, Client side, they are one and the same. It's not possible to change the model of one, without changing the model of the other.

The work-around would be to create a copy of the EGF model, give it a unique ID then have that ID associated with EGF and another ID associate with GS so that they are now two entirely separate models.

I mention this because for each and every character asking for a 'custom skin' in order for other people aside yourself to see that skin, everyone would need to download that skin's textures and a model ID would need to be made on the server just for you.

Perhaps i've confused you by now, so i'll put it like this.

If I change Bone Armour on my client to look red, it will only be red to me and remain white to everyone else.
If I wanted Bone Armour to appear red to everyone else, they would need to download my skin.
If I wanted only MY Bone Armour to appear red to everyone else, they would need to download my skin and my Bone Armour would no longer be Bone Armour, but a 'clone' of Bone Armour on the server.

Long story short, for every person wanting personalised items, all people on the server would need a patch update for every entry and a new entry made on the server's database.

TLDR: Far too impractical.

I understand it all no problemo. Obviously my server side change didnt come across in the first post. I would not pay £5 to change armor colour I could get someone to do and instal in my own files.

The time it takes to download and clone the armor i Guess is the problem. I am not a big computer lover, I just play games so I cant/dont want to know the time it takes to do small things.... I just appreciate them.

Basically my idea was as you put it, clone armor eg shatterbonetop colour = pink or whatever. add to server and job done.

For each armour set you have 60 .SPL files, so for every person asking for custom sets, that's 60 files that everyone would need to download each time someone makes the transaction.

And it's a new entry on the server's Database.

It's well within the realms of possibility and I suppose it's up to Finito or iSylver to say whether £5 is worth doing it.

That said, again, people wouldn't see it unless they downloaded the edited/newly created skin files.

I feel like if they did this it would have to be closer to £50 than £5 :p Not that I'm an expert, but it seems pretty involved.

Surely it would download in a second via the launcher?
