Firstly this made me lol reading the FAQs ,

HOW TO USE SPECIAL ITEMS AND FUNCTIONS
Compass
This item shows the direction to Thousand Year town. It cannot be used in a dungeon. While using the compass, an arrow will point toward the entrance of the town (the closer entrance between east or west gates). Click the right mouse button on the compass to turn it on. Each time it is turned on, the durability is reduced by 1. Press Esc to turn off the compass. . If you ever buy this you're an idiot

However the principles got me thinking. Could this concept be utilised to make something worth while? Quest ?

The principle being finding something that once clicked leads you to said item.

One idea i had was to have a boss drop an artifact, clicking it leads you to a untraceable, random spawning Npc which if you posses the item gives you item X.

Thoughts?

Not a bad idea. It would be a nice feature to think about.

The compass was useful for new players when the map didnt exist. I like your idea for a new style compass. Quests do need updating.

Had an idea I thought of ages ago with compasses but worked for bosses for example you could buy a compass for a set amount of barr for a specific boss for example "compass of pamoth", if pamoth was on the map the arrow would display and if the boss isn't there no arrow would come up.

The dura could be one, so it's a one time only use so in a way it would work like a form of trace but for a decent amount of barr as I do think those without trace both on hsoma and dsoma are at such a disadvantage when it comes to finding bosses.
