Guild village monopolisation: Is it a problem?

I've removed the other thread as it became a flame fest. I'd like to hear a discussion without placing blame but with offering improvements and ideas.

We've had discussions of pot delays on stone and percentage systems previously.

Keep it clean.

Personally I think it isn't at the moment. Gives me a reason to level.

I think the pot delay system already in place is fine - as people become stronger and are doing more damage a pot delay will make it pretty hard to hold the stone. It wasn't exactly easy for me to hold last night even using +100s. Although to be fair I didn't come equipped to get on as I didn't expect it ;o

A reduction on the hp recovered from healing could be a potential idea which someone mentioned in the previous thread. If that could be reduced on a weekly basis by half for a defending guild maybe that would work?
Of course the way around it would be to move to another guild and heal regardless - could give it a trial and see how it works out. However I think most people want the game/gv to be fun and work rather than ruin it.

I personally feel that the term monopolisation is being used quite a lot, to state that we have monopolised the event dosen't actually put into perspective the fact that every war all of us pre-plan to be online, moving real life issues when they can be re-arranged and also skyping and using the call between numerous members to focus targets/ time 4ths with a prioritisation.

we are a very strong guild, i personally feel that i am average but we do have a lot of active members which myself and other members of eq are enjoying. i do feel however that their could be another way in which to keep guild village fair, although whatever route that happens i think testing will be required. pot delay is an option and also as was mentioned by someone else the fact that a heal debuff on and/or around the direct spaces around the stone could be implemented similar to the effect that weaken has (-50% healing) thus meaning that weaken would do Half of the remaining 50% thus leaving the heals at 25% power rather than 0

Another option would be making more people want to turn up, make guild village have somthing else other than trace. The chinese guild (not flaming here but i dont actually know the name of the guild) are strong, leo/style/ ep/entice/ xkf/hxw are all higher level and they could put up a real fight, and also a few other guilds as well. Their seems to be a misconception with GVW at the moment that people hold out untill they are high/or have high int/ or reach a target before attending which also needs to be adressed. i have gone to all but 1 or 2 GVWs even when i was significantly lower level than most other people, all the lower levels in any guild need to understand they do make a difference as well, aside from the last couple of wars my main role was cure/ heal / slow/ weaken, their was very limited attacking done by me, i was a support character and working with my guild as a team to achieve a goal

Their are a number of issues that need to be looked at, why can people hold the stone for so long? why have never guilds turned up in the first place? can you prehaps with use of a translator see what things the chinese would actually want gvw for which would make them turn up along with the heal debuff? making it a more rounded and fair war as im sure it would be, as it has been on many occasions. eq vs everyone else, which we dont mind

Never thought of it as a problem. Wotw monopolisation would be a problem because both worlds need Conti map an access to new spells.

No one needs the Guild Village features to play. Some features you can't even use unless you win in successive weeks so the game mechanics even encourage it.

I did the same on esoma with Genesis as did Nightblades before us.

Coming from a casual guild, my view is gvw's have been a waste of time. The alliance just sucked all the fun out of it for any1 in the game which wasn't very top tier. The problem we have is that this server has a very large gap between the bulk of the average population and the very high lvls. This retults in the majority of people wondering why should they attend gvw? In esoma the average lvler would still play a role at gvw because lvls were so much closer we could actually do damage and get the odd kill.

The high lvls will probably disagree with my above view. But the proof is in the pudding; there is a huge lack of guilds that just down turn up.

I honestly don't think a % based system will work. For example, eq win it one week, fall to 80% for next week. They will just ensure a dyn member will be on stone the following week. Resulting in the same boring 1 man on stone being healed for 30mins.

The best way to make gvw appeal to the masses is to ensure the person holding stone is constantly changing. This would give even a glimmer of hope that a slightly lesser lvl could jump on the stone with 30 secs to go.
No one person should be able to stand on stone for more than 3/4/5 mins.

Now how do we achieve this? A good idea I saw, is just disable healing. Or a healing debuff just for the stone holder. There would still be tactics such as; curing, slowing, bringing crafted low weight pots etc.

However, I don't know if this is possible mechanically.

Another idea, but this is more complicated and much more of a wider issue than just gvw. Melee weaps need buffing significantly. Magic is the biggest threat at gvw and melee can just be shrugged off. Ofc unless you are like style or someone. Esoma gvw used to have a good balance to gvw with melee and magic, it gives it that other dynamic to think of. Now it's just about negating as much magic damage as possible.

I have also been trying to 'think outside the box' and changing gvw completely. But no ideas thus far.

Reduce the range that you can heal when in a party.

Make heal a 2-cast spell like curses such as weaken.

Make cure a 2-cast spell like curses.

Now you'll see fighting without nerfing someone's stats.

If somebody and their guild are strong enough to win a GV week in, week out, then they deserve it imo.

What I hoped would come from last night's GV is that people can see that even lower level guilds like us still have a chance. We turn out every week and sure last night we got lucky. But if everyone came maybe other people could get lucky too.

People wont win GV at the wraith pit.

The strongest, most organised guild who have focus on winning the Gvw keep winning the Gvw and this is a problem....... SomaLogic

Monopolization will always occur, however, there are a few things that can be done to reduce it. Make the person on the stone immune to healing, so that his guildies have to actively defend him, rather than just spam heal. This will make it more exciting for everyone, reduce the lifespan of the person on the stone. and just generally make the wars more dynamic and fun for all. The weaken change was definitely a step in the right direction at least.

Personally I dislike seeing intervention even though I know that recent gvws have been very stale. If another guild was to win because a GM wiped the area 2mins before it ended, it would be a very hollow victory and cause a massive amount of resentment. Test server was monopolized for months, until fractured managed to band together and usurp it. And it was one of the most epic wars ever. I'm sure Nb' felt this to a certain degree this week, and wouldn't have liked to have had the victory gifted to them.

I think the server just needs another month of so, for people to get high enough level to coordinate useful damage combos. Currently no one can deal enough damage to actually 'time' someone with auras, and that's why you see very little coordination or teamwork, as it simply isn't practical. Test server monopolization occurred because of obscene bag weights and hp pools that made dmg combos largely irrelevant. Hopefully we can see teamwork and coordination reaping results in the future wars once str values have risen somewhat.

Iphios, I do agree with you on that.

Unfortunately I was not on last night, and without the alliance and seeing NB win (gratz), it does make me wonder if it was more exciting than usual.

But this is a result of the first steps of not having the eq/dyn alliance. It has opened things up slightly. By how much remains to be seen.

I think quite a few ppl don't go to the gvw because they use that hour to hunt knowing its the one hour besides wow in a week that they are unlikely to be randomly pk'd by the usual suspects.

Gratz to NB for their win last night. :) a nice refreshing change.

Why are people saying it was gifted to them?

Zyzz & Plum being kicked from the game each time they grabbed the stone surely takes away much of the 'fight'.

On topic:
I don't think there's any harm in Monopolising something that you gain so little from.

If you had a real incentive to win the guild village, everyone would go.
Exact same as giving an incentive for wotw.

If the village grants nothing (trace is kinda pointless) and serves only as a waste of barr along with a distraction from hunting, then why put the effort into going?

Now if you had something like Abyss again, where the map rewards nice items (at the expense of granting no exp) and had a premium to access, like 50k barr per warp, then GV would hold higher value.

I wasn't there but I heard there was some GM intervention and unwarranted suspensions to EQ members which resulted others being discouraged with the war. (this is second hand information though and what other information in the original thread made by Plum was deleted)

On the other hand though I'm glad Nightblades won as they've been making an effort of it for a while.

Plum died on the stone before I got on.
Zyzz I cant comment as I didn't see him anywhere near it.

The kicking to which you refer happened in the first 20-30mins.
