"SHATTERSTAR"Depends on when the level cap will be raised, if the cap will stay at 99/100 for another 9 months or more you will be fine. If the plan is to raise it after within the next 6-9 months, personally I see no point is starting if you want to take part in PVP/wars etc.

this is the whole point in soma for myself, i dont care about being a one man army standing on the stone tanking damage while in peace mode chatting as i go but i like to be actively able to participate in pvp combat either assisting the team or dropping some timed 4th's/db's just dont want to constantly being 2hit while trying.

Playing four hours a day it will take 350 days until you reach a point where you can participate. The best option would be to level with a friend or look to multi a character.

Utter nonsense.

Plenty of examples of people whom are 'competitive' (make an impact) in PVP whilst not playing extreme hours.
One off the top of my head would be Secret (EQ guild).

He rerolled from Dsoma just over a month ago and he's stronger than your character, you've been on Hsoma for far longer than he has - instead of whining about how impossibly hard it is to "compete" he just hunts.

People make out that the game is slower than it really is, just get your head down, hunt and stick to it.

"S0RCERER"if you hunt (exclusively) then it will not take long at all.

"S0RCERER"if you have only 4 hours a day and you use it entirely on hunting, you will overtake the majority of Hsoma in a few months.

Sorcer0r how often do you think I play? He said how many hours he had and I gave him an honest reply. When Isylver posted those level 50 characters I was level 54 with 100 hours less play time and 60+ pot and weapon. Do not lecture me about using time wisely and where anyone will be. I am confident that my charcacter would be right up there for stats to time played ratio.

Do you think I post to take the piss? This game takes a lot of
time and he asked a question I have my honest opinion., based on his situation

Not to take the piss no, but telling someone "It's too late to join the game because you'll never compete" is an out-and-out lie.

I'm saying it's not as bleak a picture as you paint it to be.
If you are joining this late into the game and wish to be competitive yet play 4 hours a day and no more, then you'll need to do absolutely nothing but hunt - makes the game feel more like a job when you've no time to experience the game outside hunting, but i'm being realistic.

Nobody will catch up by standing around town, or getting involved in pk wars, crafting, item hunting if you're just going to play casually - that's the point i'm making.

You simply told him (In so many words) "You'll never compete playing only 4 hours a day".

As above. The quickest way to be able to compete is to rush int to 100 then level melee on rested.

You can easily catch up to a point where you'll be able to compete in PVP with a guild. Everyone plays different amounts and a lot of people have slowed down a lot due to not having as much time to play as they used to.

Just hunt and enjoy the game!

Do not tell me in so many words what you think I have said. I have never said he should not start the game or that in 'so many words' playing four hours a day will get him nowhere. I told him that, given the time available to him that would be the time frame I would expect. This is based on;

My hours played
The currently amount of hours I intend to play from now on and where I think/aim to be stat and level wise
How many hours he will play
How many hours everyone else will keep playing while he levels

Solution - raise rested exp until level 40-45. Because the rest of soma is not going to stop and wait for anyone to catch up. By the time he has 500 hours played, myself personally will match that. I would fully expect myself to wipe the floor with a character who has played 500 hours if he starts from today.

Level 40-45 is way too high in my opinion. If anything the next time it is raised (if it will be raised at all) I expect it to jump with 5 lvls, 10 at the max.

"SHATTERSTAR"personally I see no point is starting if you want to take part in PVP/wars etc.

Shatter, perhaps it's a mild case of schizophrenia or dementia, but what is your above statement supposed to mean if not "There is no point in playing?".

When in a hole, stop digging.

I wasn't putting words in anyone's mouth, you typed that out only a few posts ago, what a short memory you have.
