how do you know what a mobs cap is?

i heard 20 above the monsters str/int is cap?

I think caps work like this (And please correct me if I'm wrong or miss it).

Once you hit the str cap on a mob you can not gain any stats from it.
Str cap is calculated using database cell data, ((sstr*2) + SAStr+ SWStr) /2 +31
So for the most part figure mob str on armory +31 = Cap Str

I don't know about INT cap as I think ANY gains are based on ability to gain Str from a mob,
However, as you approach the "INT cap" of a mob armory int + 31 I would expect gains to slow but not stop until Str cap is met.

Incorrect, INT gains are based off INT and the cap works the same, based on INT. It's +31 too.

Since your a punch mage you might like to know that for DSoma punching is based on STR gains, And since the rest of your gains are based on your STR gains (though their all the same) you can still gain INT regardless of how high it is.

What I mean with that is, if I hit a mob once with a melee weapon and I receive for example 10XP and 10STR XP, but 10.0 STR later, even though str is slower in general, do i still gain 10xp and 10 str xp per hit?

Ghost, would you be able to find out by asking fin/isylver what % or ratio it is for STR gains before and after a mobs base STR?

That definitely isn't the case. From my own testing, I've noticed you get the best gains when your STR is 30 or more below the monster you are hunting. Slow downs occur once you're within 30 (maybe 31) of their STR.

An an example, if you are on 60 STR and you have a choice between hunting something with 85, 95 and 105 STR. The 85 STR monster will give you "bad" gains (difference of 25). The 95 and 105 will give you optimal gains (doesn't seem to be difference between the two, as long as your STR is below the "30-threshold").

This's just what I've noticed on DSoma. I'd imagine it'd be easier to test all the intricacies of this system on HSoma.

Funnily enough I experienced the same when testing in on the test server, I never posted it hear since it was never confirmed. I would love to get some insight in this from Finito.
