Returning player seeking advice!

Hello everyone!

I was an avid Soma player back when it was first released, played for years and then stopped. I came back once a good few years ago now, and again stopped. It was only by chance that a couple of days ago I happened upon a YouTube video, and realised that Soma is still going. I jumped right back in lol.

Firstly is with regards to levelling. Back when I played, punching Brics in TYT for Con was the thing to do on a new character. After doing this a while I was informed this isn't the done thing anymore, so I switched to hitting the Bugs instead and have my Con at 18 and then set off. I will go back and do to 30 at a later date.

From little snippets of information I've gleaned from a few forum searches, apparently the best way to have a great character and nigh-on "perfect" stats, is to start Bow for Dex until you have the desired amount, the switch to Axe for Str. This is best done on mobs with 50+ Str than yourself. I presume this is either done by having a friend tank, or having a separate character that can tank mobs while you attack on your new "perfect" character.

As I play solo, and this is my first character, neither of these options are available to me. Am I still right in thinking I can get decent results from the "old-school" levelling routine (Leo > Orc > Kobold > Scale > Raps > Troll etc) while doing the aforementioned straight Bow then back into Axe thing? I don't want to continue levelling up the way am I, to realize that I get to a decent level that my character is massively inferior to everyone else lol.

Also as a quick aside, with regards to crafting I was considering levelling up the profession so I can make my own supply of HP/MP Pots, mainly as I will mostly be playing solo and would like to be self-sufficient during my level progression. I was also thinking of taking armor crafting so I can make the Dex sets as they become available, or is there an NPC somewhere that sells those, that I'm not aware of?

Thanks in advance, sorry if it's a tad long-winded lol

Skip to kob and cliff them with bow

Crafting has a higher fail rate at low skill here,
happy to sub you barr and armor/weps required

Happy to tank also, on a break til the end of this week. If you looking guild, i'd recommend Magners if they still taking members or Arcanix2 after lvl 30 if they still have the req.

Scale Raps have low def dex and are easily hit n runable. If you're bow.

Do the mummy quest to get a Rare-Intense 22 str set (youll need bandages for aura)

Also forget about trolls. Once you hit 45 dex, get 60 int and do dex at wraiths until about 65.

Hi guys.

Thanks a lot of all the comments and advice, I shall definitely take it on board!

I have noticed since back that the community is very receptive and helpful towards new or returning players, this is great to see. There's been lots of help here, and lots of people offering help in-game without even needing to be asked. So much appreciated to everyone who has given me advice and offers of help, and those I have bumped into in-game :)

I'm sitting at around 42 for Dex and Str so I shall finish both up to 45 while I'm still at Raptors, then start off on some Int. So far, so good :D
