Pure FPS lagfest

Author Content Date
Hi, for the last 2 days i have been victim of lagspikes that seem to massively affect my FPS.
Gets worse the busier the screen but is also bad when just solo hunting.
Ive had some advice from a few guys on hsoma (Thanks) but still i cannot play.
Ive tried;
Reinstalled Windows
Reinstalled Soma
Changing to different resolutions
Disabling my second monitor
Updating graphics card
Vacuumed my PC to perfection
Used an antivirus
Fiddled with compatibility settings and 8/16bit settings

I may have to interact with my family if i cannot fix this and we all know this is not an option.
If anyone at all has had similar problems i am happy to try anything at all or if Fin and his infinite wisdom could assist would be much appreciated.
Please save me from buying a new PC =D
Thanks
Sam

As you've explored software fixes, maybe it's hardware.

Download this and reply with the model of your CPU and what temperature it's hitting durin the FPS drops.

Or Google and find out what temp your CPU model thermal throttles at and if you're reaching/exceeding it.

If fps drops are caused by thermal throttle, consider new cooler, or just reapplying thermal paste and making sure your cpu cooler is fitted correctly.

I had this with issue when I played. New cooler with mid-range thermal paste application fixed it on previous PC.

Soma is CPU heavy on single cores, so heat can get out of control.

Can also check GPU temperature/google the thermal throttle point, see if that's an issue. Adding more case fans would probably resolve that one.

- All this assuming you have a desktop, not a laptop. Laptop you could diagnose by same method, but hell if I know how you'd go about fixing it.

Laptops are hopeless, #PC master-race.

Important stuff circled on HWMonitor interface

Any chance you are using Windows 10? If so this is an known issue with dual screens every time a new version is released which has to be patched by Fin.

You have said you have disabled your second monitor and still get the problem but the chance of there being other unknown issues with soma following the update has a high probability.

Version 1803 (April Update) was just released a couple of days a go so it could be been updated to that. If you reinstalled with the media creation tool or reset the PC it would likely also be 1803 again.

Can you run a winver from the command prompt and confirm version?

If its 1803, it's worth a go installing 1709 (Fall Creators Update).

I had the exact same issue, i uninstalled microsoft update KB4103727 which resolved the issue.

Then paused Windows updates so it doesn't attempt to reinstall.

Hope this helps.

Update, i have disabled secondary monitor again and switched the monitors over. Seems to have resolved the lag issue. This on its own is 100% retarded. Any chance someone who knows everything ie. Fin could look into it as i think my days are numbered if i cannot watch tv on the other screen. I know its not a priority or a serious issue but i bought the other monitor last year to take the stress out of levelling without going "afk" by turning my chair to the TV. Would love a proper fix
Many many many thanks again for all your help and future helps =D

Dual monitor issue is to do with gdi32.dll. Finito has to add each version manually into an update.

No but in all seriousness they are pretty cheap now and means you can watch someone at a decent size right next to the soma window.

Yeah not a bad idea using something like that, not exactly like soma needs a 1ms response time at 144hz from a gaming monitor.
