High CPU temperature only within soma

I've recently noticed that my PC has been getting extremely hot lately, and i thought well as here in the UK it's been pretty damn hot this was the cause, however it appears this isn't correct!

I thought perhaps this was just a cooling issue, so updated my mobo drivers, checked all the fans etc.

Soma takes around 15% CPU usage on my I7-7700K

It's not being overclocked.

I decided to run another game, Hitman and this takes up about 30% Cpu usage and my CPU Temp remains the average 35C.

Im using a H115I Watercooler with 2 140mm fans and 3 140mm case fans,

With soma closed, My Package of Temp is around 35C, as soon as i press play to soma and it prompts for U/N & PW it doubles to 65C-70C, If i open another instance, It then hits around 75-80C

I'm on windows 10, and recently rolled back the latest update due to the dual monitor stutter.

It seems strange that only soma is causing my temperature to double for a small CPU usage and no other application.

I know for a fact it hasn't always been this way, does anyone else have any similar issues??

Thanks!

I've re-applied thermal paste to my CPU and watercooler and this seems to have improved temp wise. Still can hit 55-60 by one soma open but its better than the 65-70 before.

You're in no risk of damaging it or throttling as you're getting nowhere near 100 c.

Edit: what thermal paste are you using?

I know but, I really wouldn't expect soma to make my CPU hit 70C considering a potato could run it.

Re-applying thermal paste seemed to have lasted me a while im using Arctic MX-4

Still, it's only when i launch soma, If i play other games it doesn't hit anywhere near that sounds like some optimisation issue with the game itself

It wouldn't bother me too much, except the facts that when my water hits temp of 40C the fans run at max 2200 RPM which sound like a jumbo jet taking off :(

Does it stay 70C the whole time playing, or just when you start soma up then goes back down?

The whole time playing ,If i open another instance of soma -It will go up and up depending how many soma's ive got, When having 3 open it hits 85C core CPU temp

Download dxtory and cap your fps to 60-80 and the temp should go down.

This really helped thanks, was at 70C with one soma process open now down to around 45c with capped at 60fps

With this ive also managed to drop CPU usage of 4 cores from 25% down to 1% ^^

On a stock intel i7 6700k with the inbuilt graphics on Win 7 CPU usage normally is 13% capping fps at 60 has reduced this down to 9% so about 30% less total.
Haven't managed to check temp but would suspect a drop there too.

I think a 60 fps cap would be sensible, even if it means changing the settings ini
