WotW - Castle Assault

I've just had an idea to make wow a bit more of a team effort for the first 45 mins, and make it more of an event to show up for the full duration.

Why not make it a staged assault?

Stage 1 - Safe zone - attackers spawn at safe zone, pick up explosives from a designated pickup point and head to castle. Castle has walls (like at GV) which would take ages to destroy attacking them, so detonate the explosives next to them to take 25% hp off pillars in range 2 of the explosion. Defenders Spawn at castle "gate" for this stage. Once achieved, 25 PoS reward to all attackers not in the safe zone, a small camp appears at the castle gate for attackers to spawn at, and guards of the attacking race spawn in the castle to occupy the guards of the defending race.

Stage 2 - Castle Siege - infiltrate the castle and break 2 mechanisms/kill 2 guard npcs (with low str and high-ish hp) at different locations near the throne room which unlock the throne room door. Allow the ramparts to be accessible so ranged can station themselves on them to attack passers by - like they would in a real castle siege. Defenders spawn in throne room, attackers spawn at castle gate. 50 PoS rewards for each person near the NPC kills

Stage 3 - Overthrow - Hold 2 stones at the end of the hour to win the war. Both races spawn at various points throughout the castle. 500 PoS for each person of the winning race stood on a stone, and for this stage only 1 PoS every second for everyone in the throne room, and 5 PoS to everyone from the winning side who is in the castle map or throne room at the time the war ends.

If the war ends at phase 1, 150 PoS to all defenders; if it ends at phase 2, 50 PoS to all defenders.

Obviously the tasks required and rewards are purely to relay the idea across so would need to be much more thought out that that. Might also be PoS rewards be increased the lower your % is, once it's below 65%, to deter people letting others win for the sake of an easy ride at SS ;)

Sounds fun does it not? Also means the balancing system will account for more things, like how much harder it is to attack than defend.

Nice thread however the storing of pos makes the whole pos/5th system a bit dull for me.

So make it harder to transfer, less reward pos per kills, stop this 500 pos for level difference

Would be nice yeah however with the 100,000s of pos that has been stored or changed hands already - people may not like the concept.

Best rewards for conti are mobs that cater to the participants. Conti map is huge and could be better used. Slightly off topic!
Good ideas in the thread but ultimately conti for most is about getting the mobs rather than the pos. A revamp of some nature is definitely needed/would be appreciated. Haven't really been to the last 2 properly with naked devs and humans being killed naked on -2k and for the most part I only go as guild members need spells etc. - not to go all "yeah what do I get out of wotw/conti" but yeah...

Sounds good, i like the idea, altho guessing it would be hard to implement..?
How about having a boss mob in the throne room aswell (king of the castle or something) would also need to be killed by the attackers before the stones show up?

I also think there needs to be a conti quest brought in aswell, something that can only be completed on conti, but would potentially take months to complete? Even make it in stages, with different rewards per stage, that way, if the rewards are good enough, it might make people want to win wotw. (Something like for devils.. 1000 tark leather / firemetal etc, an an npc can reward devs with a crafting recipe)

I was thinking this too, could also have the assaulting king involved with the siege somehow too maybe, even if he just showed his face at the camp in phase 2 and called his guards to arms.

I see your point entirely and I agree some other tweaks might also be needed to the RvR system as a whole, but this thread was intended to be more about the actual war itself rather than the PoS system or benefits of owning Conti. The reason I added PoS rewards to the idea was partly to give players more incentive to make the effort and get involved, but also to increase its relevance as a currency; if people are gaining PoS throughout the war, they can hardly go off and store it on an alt before they carry on with the rest of the assault, so that means kills would also be more meaningful and staying alive would be more important.

I just think the war would be a lot more fun during the first 45 mins if there was more to it than hovering around the safe zone as people pop out to cast spells or fire off the odd hit+4th before retreating to safety again. Don't get me wrong, I do find that amusing, but everyone knows the last 10 mins or so are all that matters when it boils down to actually winning, so a non-linear event might also make people want to attend for the enjoyment of feeling more involved or like they are actually contributing more to the outcome of the war.

Some good ideas I need to sort through the many conti ideas this weekend. Ghostlord is quite passionate about adding benefits/boosting worth too.

"ISYLVER" I have plans to implement a pve method of gaining pos in the New Year.


Maybe some kind of pos gain from the monsters in conti?
A Boss like MWUN (Per soma day) dropping SAS in conti as ghostlord mentioned somewhere?

Would drastically increase the desire for both races to want conti.
