The spell bar and keykinds..

1
Author Content Date
One thing that really shows up this games age is the spell bar and (lack of) keybinds...

I've seen a screenshot of an expanded spell / pot bar on the somadev forum so it is seemingly possible and has been thought about.. is there any chance of this being implemented?

A simple alternative - for the short term

Customizable keybinds would be brilliant, but i understand that requires a bit of development, so I'd like to suggest default keybinds that basically let you select a spell even if it isn't on the visible row on the spell bar.

for example, on your visible spell bar, you have
| staff aura / weak / iron fist / fw |
but no room for heal!..... so what if heal had a default keybind, i dunno... say ALT + 1 ... if you have heal on any of your spell rows, it would select it, even if it wasn't on the visible row, but kept you on your active row.
That's the key for making it useful and worthwhile, it has to select from an inactive row, but maintain your row at the time of using the keybind.

so a set of default ALT + NUM keybinds could be set up for the most popular spells..
I feel pretty confident this wouldn't be that hard for Finito to develop and would really improve the game-play and modernize it a bit... GMs ..... thoughts please?!?!

*edit* Just seen my typo in the title -.-

Having a personal key binding function is a GREAT idea.
It would probably mean changing the way you talk, as you know at the moment you can just press any letter number or symbol and it will trigger your chat bar or and away you type. If you changed that so you had to press / ur chat bar would up and then type your desired message ! would trigger shout and > party etc. This it would free up a lot of extra keys for key bindings e.g
I would still use F1 - F4 for spells/auras F5 - F8 for pots etc. but would then use 1 2 3 4 Q W E R for my other 2 x4 spell/aura slots. (i wish i could see them all and it not cover a quarter of my screen, making expanded spell bars as brain said a logical next step)
There would be many other alternatives I'm sure other players may have different ideas, Jackelpup would probably want to key bind a town portal scroll to every other key available so when he sees me he could just bash his keyboard and to safety he goes.

Expanded spell and pot bars would be fantastic, lets face it there would be plenty of room on the screen if the action bars were just a bit smaller.

Does anybody think this would be a bad idea?

The top one just using f1-f8 allowing you to drop consumables / spells into any slot would be sweeeeet!

This is something for Finito's list, which he'll get to in due time. I'm not going to say it's low priority, but I will say there's some other cool stuff that needs his attention too.

Adding weapons and armour to pot bar would be good too. Eg Bow & Staff to swap between them by pressing F4.

Another thing I'd ideally like - slightly off topic - would be if you have a 1h weapon and shield equipped and equip a 2 handed weapon (eg staff) it will unequip the shield and 1h weapon automatically, rather than needing to unequip the shield yourself.

Very small things but make such a big difference (Like the dura warning changes)

Ok so another idea.

I get annoyed having to hover over every item to see the items info for dura etc.. If you press f10 character/bag opens you could then press f10 again to show item info box on every item equipped, then f10 again to come out of that screen. I think this would help u keep track of ur dura and allow you to still carry on casting spells or watever your doing, basically freeing up your mouse.

p.s This idea hasn't even been stolen from wow
