Apart from the fairly recent purchase of an Azure Eye Wand and two small diamonds, I don’t think I’ve ever bought anything from it, nor have I sold anything. But I’ve looked at it often and seen all sorts of anomalies. Perhaps more to the point, I’m now in a position where I have meaningful stuff I could trade there.

Perhaps the most frustrating thing about it is that everyone values things differently, and values seem to fluctuate over days rather than months. So, I thought that I’d produce a set of rules that will accompany my first serious auction, and I would also list what I want (frogs etc) in exchange for the items (Yes, I know this already happens, but it can be yet more helpful), if it refined (by your kind comments that I hope will follow – or abandoned by universal ridicule, it will either be helpful to all, or fail to see the light of day. So, folks, I’m looking for constructive comments or polite criticisms.

The first auction will be mainly items from Volk Shaman and Magma Beast drops. The underlined parts are for your benefit, and not be part of the rules.

My proposed rules:
RULE 1. I accept only Herbs, Large Livers, Frogs, Rubies and Diamonds. (Note that for the benefit of Newbies I do not use abbreviations).
RULE 2. I reserve the right to retain any item that has failed to reach a bid acceptable to me.
RULE 3. In order to assist your bidding I tell you the ‘value to me’ of the various items in the following ‘units of value’ list:-
Thus:-
1 unit = 1 herb OR 1 large liver.
4 units = 1 frog.
20 units = 1 small ruby. Medium and Large Rubies count as 3x or 9x these units.
80 units = 1 small diamond. Medium and Large Rubies count as 3x or 9x these units.
By this means I can easily assess which bids are winning, and you can see clearly what you need to do to overbid.
RULE 4. This is a bit tricky. YOU MAY NOT PLACE A SINGLE BID THAT EMBRACES MORE THAN ONE ITEM OR STACK OF ITEMS. For example: if you see a Shironim Wand and a Clean tablet on the auction that you wish to bid for, you may NOT offer “ Three sds for Shiro and CT”. You MUST make separate bids for each. The reason for this is that a bidder who only wants the Shiro, has no clue what to bid on it, as he has no interest in the CT; nor does the auctioneer have any idea how to split it up. It gives much greater clarity. If you want to bid on an item (like the Shiro) and someone has offended this rule, then ignore that person’s bid as I will be disallowing it.
RULE 5. When bidding on a STACK, you must make it abundantly clear as to how much of the stack you are bidding on. For example on a stack of 10 of ‘Health whistles’ you bid “ one frog on Health Whistles”, this will not be a valid bid. You need to stipulate the quantity you are seeking for the frog: is it all of them, or just one? If it’s just one, then another bidder can bid on the remaining nine, or all of them (providing it overbids you anyway)
RULE 6. When overbidding, you may not do so by merely adding a single Herb or Large Liver. The minimum overbid will be 4 herbs or large livers or 1 frog.

Comments please, Ladies, Gents and the Blue Lords of this strange world in which we live.

Free markets will always fluctuate, you can tell a customer what you think an item is worth, but if they disagree they simply won't buy it. Also a minimum overbid is unnecessary imho, as 1 herb more is still more, and wouldn't you accept it still, even though it's not 4 herbs?

Making people place separate bids instead of say a SD for a staff and a helm, will turn people away from bidding an SD in the first place. Maybe they are asking for both because the staff alone is not worth an SD?

Frog would only be worth 1.5-2 units
Small Ruby worth 4-5 frogs so only 6-10 units
Small dia worth about 10-15 frogs so only 15-20 units

To Chojine and Alexis, I give my thanks for responding. What effectively they are doing is giving me examples of their own valuations. I am trying to set something more tangible. I am aware I set herbs and livers at a low unit (a quarter of a frog) and that's for a very good reason: they are low value currency and as such are frequently offered. I agree that 1.5-2 is probably right for a frog, but I don't want them all that much as currency - hence it's 'value to me'. I am looking for almost-universal currency here. Barrs dont't make it anymore. Really, it's all about frogs and diamonds and to a lesser extent rubies.

Please keep the comments coming.

"CHOJINE"Free ....?

I never mentioned a helm - it was a clean tablet. But that's not the point. They don't need to bid an SD anyway on the staff - they bid what they think it's worth to them, and the same for the CT.

But you failed on your post from this comment

"Perhaps the most frustrating thing about it is that everyone values things differently,"

Yes they do. I may have a spear that i think is worth 4mill barr.. you may think its worth 3mill

But the next person who is interested may value it at 6mill

Same with things like Frogs and Large Livers.

If people think they can get these easy they will pay as little as they can

if someone who hardly ever uses em just needs 1 of each then they will pay what is required to get one

Its just a Supply and Demand.

People who bid like this are annoying af but yeah if people specified that no combined bids are allowed in their initial post / rules it could go some way to preventing it

I did specify that this rule was 'tricky', and it seems some brains can be defeated by it. Yours, however, has got the message (thank God someone has). Thank you for the positive comment..
