Changing the way stuff looks in soma?

Author Content Date
Hi, I would of posted this on the somadev forum in the model section but that forum looks pretty dead now! Does anyone know how to go about this? I've seen stuff about swapping mob skins around, like you can change the way your character looks to walking around as a bric etc. But i would like to see how to change the look of everything, like magic, your cursor, stuff like that.

Thanks!

You probably could to some extent although changing people to mobs probably wouldnt be that good, as when equipping weapons or armours it might not work out too well.

I've changed a few mobs around mainly to make them easier to hunt when using magic, like my Dsoma EGF's are scorpion whelps, and my Dsoma GF are modified raro's which actually look like a pile of yellow sick now.

apart from that, messing with too much stuff just gonna make things look wierd. I also use comic sans MS bold as my font, which is far easier to read with higher resolutions

IS there any chance you can talk me through how to do stuff like that please? Changing my character was just an example of the only stuff I've found guides to which isn't really what I wan't. It's the simple stuff like changing the look of the ingame cursor I wouldn't mind knowing how to do.

Cheers!

Well what I do is use somavision to find the skin I'm looking for

http://somadev.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=4705

Armours and Weps are in Armature or Darmature for Dsoma. Mobs and characters are in the man folder of your soma directory.

To change a basic mob skin, you have to find the one you want to replace. IE: bric then the one you want to replace it with IE: giant spider

Each mob has a series of files that need to be replaced, not just one file. you can usually notice this by the series of the numbers of the file. IE: 10001-10015 will be one mob, then the next one will be 10101-10115 for the next mob.

So if you wanted to change bric to giant spider you'de find the giant spider files, copy and paste them somewhere seperate, find the NAME (long number) of the bric files and change the giant spider files to rename to the bric file name, then copy and paste them back into the folder they came from and the game will recognise brics as giant spiders.

Never tried to change the cursor so I wouldnt know. sorry if you cant understand any of that, i cba trying to dull it down.

Yeah that explanation worked fine thankyou. Only trouble I'm having is that somavision won't let me select brics to change their colour... I've noticed that quite alot of the files won't open in it!

Some files are not SPLs.

These are definitely SPL files. One of the things I wanted to do was change the colour of the hand on your cursor. I downloaded the updated somavision which now lets you view all the man******* spl files that the original wouldn't let you, but the update won't let you fiddle with colours etc. So it's pretty useless to me to be honest. Unless There's something I'm overlooking on the updated somavision?

The little hand cursor is the file "PICKUP" in the nres folder but the original somavision won't open it...
