For every person moaning on here with a sob story, someone is ingame making items. It’s just RNG. As long as you don’t upgrade without a back up you will never lose.
I put 5 toes on a new sword and 5 on an epic BSB all in a row 10 successful. Then the next night I had 18 red pods and couldn’t make anything above +3. Most people on here moaning about upgrades who have plenty of +6/7/8 items. So you want it to be even easier? The best way to sort this out for the people who really do need it, is make some quests give out “levelling” armour. Like 3/4% eva or acc parts, +3-4 weps, some upped access. And have them non upgradable.

I imagine in Soma that what you are talking about is used like this. Generate random number 1-100 If upgrader skill is 100 - need to be 55 or higher to succeed for +1 If upgrader skill is 150 - need to be 50 or higher to succeed for +1 If upgrader skill is 200 - need to be 45 or higher to succeed for +1 Etc. So in theory that should be enough to reward anyone craft skill, but... The trouble is though, the rand() function that generates the number and others similar to it are known to not be considered 'truly' random. https://wiki.sei.cmu.edu/confluence/display/c/MSC30-C.+Do+not+use+the+rand%28%29+function+for+generating+pseudorandom+numbers looks like a valid alternative but I'm no real programmer. Though Flawless makes a good point.
