Hardcore Soma Server

I have been playing Diablo III Hardcore mode quite a lot recently following the release of the recent expansion and I had a brain wave. Or rather a daydream. Could you guys imagine a hardcore Soma server? I have no idea if the functionality would even be possible or if anything like this has been attempted before.

Obviously it couldn't be anything long term and would require some sort of leader board/ladder system and frequent resets to prevent it becoming stale or not competitive. (1-2 month ladder length for example, winners gaining some sort of reward on the live server)

This sort of gameplay wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea especially with the risk/reward factor involved but I could certainly see it being quite popular amongst people who enjoy rivalries or this type of game.

As I mentioned at the top of my post, this is very much a daydream. I have zero clue if the functionality would even be possible.

What do you guys think?

Cheers,
Oz

*Edit: For those who are not aware, In hardcore mode on Diablo for example, when you die you die forever and can no longer play that character.

I like the idea to keep things competitive, but I would be dubious about splitting the community up onto separate servers for extended periods of time. Neo's suggestion of reducing the opening hours would be a good fix, but I wonder if people would then just prefer to keep rerolling hardcore, and never go back to the carebear server - as it would inevitably be dubbed ;)

As a concept It might work if it was more like an event, where you imported your main character from the main server onto the hardcore sever, and had one "life" to achieve set things to be awarded prizes for each before the event ended and the server went down... but then again, for actually implementing it, maybe it would be better done as a monthly 2-3 hr "last man standing" type of event on this server instead, and made so that once you die you would no longer be eligible for the rewards, nor could you attack/be attacked by people who are still going strong. There could be a table of how long you survived, what you managed to achieve in that time and a point system of some sort to form rankings with a shiny penny for the winner and a wooden spoon for the first to die.
