I hope you will all agree that doing something you enjoy, for nothing, is a great feeling. A concept that draws people in and produces longevity and a loyal fan base.
But after a while, if you're like me, you wonder what you can do to help keep this thing going as long as possible. Of course I am talking about Blade of Heaven; something so many of us enjoy for nothing. In business I am constantly trying to establish what is best for the consumer and the business, so here are a few suggestions, which I want you to be brutally honest about, that I have pondered. Before I begin I must say that this is all from me - Jason Himsworth, Qneruiz - and should not be confused with anybody with any sort of authority or power over the server. It is all theory and dreams. "Voting" This concept can be seen repeated often throughout games which require the attention and advertisement of votes. Put simply: You follow a link, complete a CAPTCHA - (a puzzle, or something to manually type) - then it thanks you for voting. How it benefits the you: You may be rewarded something for voting daily. Barr, something minuscule that nobody will be offended by. How it benefits the server: The CAPTCHA pays the server every time one is completed. You could also have advertisements surrounding the CAPTCHA to bring in more money. "Titles" This one is a little far-fetched and I am not sure how easily implemented this is. By donating a specific amount to the server, you could potentially have something before your name (On shouts, solely) - E.g. If I spend £5 on the server and I were to level 30 shout - It may read: [Supporter]QNERUIZ : Hello. This one is self explanatory, you become noticed for being dedicated to the continuation of the server and the server in return gets money. Examples: £5 Supporter £10 Legend £20 Immortal £50 Demi-God £100 God Once you have bought one title, e.g. Supporter, it takes that cost off the next title. "Items" This one is a rocky road, one I don't particularly agree with, but if done correctly could be implemented successfully, it would just require a lot more work and thinking. £3 for a SP £5 for 4.0 Con Different items, stats etc. for real money. All of the above have pros and cons, I'm skeptical whether or not any of this will ever happen, but I thought I would voice my thoughts out and ask you all to give me your own. Don't tell me you don't sit on the game you're playing for nothing and don't think about how you can give back. You must have had an idea somewhere down the line, now is the time to voice it :) Thanks for reading. TL;DR - Let us pay for items, stats or titles. Pay us in game barr for "voting" or clicking on advertisements.

I also think it is a good idea to give back.
However, I am not sure about the items thing .. maybe that's OK as it is. But the Title idea and the voting thing probably warrants more exploring if it would help with Blade of Heavens revenue stream. |

Like the voting and the shout title but the item one personally should not be taking into consideration .
Greats ideas [Wrong section for posting them tho] but thanks for sharing them. Really hope the first 2 become actually things for the game/community.

I agree on the giving back thing,
But nobody wants to pay something for "nothing". People like to be rewarded or recognized for giving money - that's why just straight up donating doesn't work 95% of the time. There is a way you could explore the "item" thing, instead of giving anything of importance for payments, you could perhaps give a different color for an armour - Literally just aesthetic buys. Would you pay for a pink male Banded Armour? I would, if it meant people noticed me. Again, not sure how easy that is to implement, but worth a thought. Edit: I apologize for posting in the wrong location, I was unsure of where this should sit. I am hoping for this to be a discussion more than a straight up recommendation/idea. Therefore I went for this location :)

tbh mate, we are donating yes. But dont think this is a good idea. We should appreciate the server is already free. And Gms have put alot of hard effort in. Also any donations we do give goes back into the server, so thats basically getting something back anyway as we enjoy playing.

But not everybody feels the same way that you do. Out of the 1000ish unique user base I would be interested to see how many, statistically, actually donate.
What this is, is an incentive for people who aren't donating, to begin donating. |

What I would like to see is the old donate button returned (unless I'm just overlooking it somewhere).
I personally do not want anything in return for donating (as it makes it feel like a "purchase" and not a "donation"). The voting idea sounds good, but either people will eventually stop doing it or just set up bots to do it for them. I do not think anymore incentives for donating are needed, atm (except the old donate link!).

I don't agree with items or stats that would benefit a user, I mentioned 2 new WH/GS spaces for £1, with a maximum of £20? It wouldn't really benefit anyone, just stop everyone having 20 store characters

i agree with supporting the server and like most of your ideas, but as soon as i read £4 SP , that's just stupid. No amount of real world money should ever buy you an in game advantage! asphetics only!

Nicely written post with good ideas.
GMs have always been anti "pay to win" model as is most of the userbase. I agree with the donate/incentive thoughts though. While your incentive should be playing the game it's not always viewed as such. Anyone have any idea on server running costs? A donation target bar for monthly expenditure (even as a % if costs won't be revealed) may be enough to make people donate more to ensure it is at "100% by x date" each month?

Or once the server becomes a little older, yo ucould sell SP's for £ as people would just be catching up and wouldn't really give anyone currently playing an advantage

Agreed except the buying items part, nobody should ever be able to do that.
Things like armour colour changes or things like that I completely agree with. However I'd like to see where the current donations go to, a break down if possible, server costs? advertising? perhaps we can hire someone for new skins? Or is there money there already for that? Pretty sure donations have been steady since users have been able to donate.

I see most replies are about the "Pay to Win" suggestion, however I did say that this is something that would require a lot of careful planning and support - I too am against the idea, but it is exactly that; an Idea - one that needs to be discussed as a possible option.
I'm glad to see the support for other aesthetic options, I really think they could take that far. IRNBRU made the best point I think I could have made in this whole thread. Let us see how much it costs you to keep the server running and let us donate with a progress bar on how close we are to fulfilling that every month. I would be happy with that in place :)
