Monetization - Your thoughts

i Love the fact we are discussing this, i have actually talked about this ingame a few times. I am gona be FRANK and this is my own opinion so chill. i don't think that many people donate to this game as many as we may think do. Probably a handful of people. I Myself have never donated no reason particularly. i keep sayin i will someday soon. We have all played a few highly known world recognised games (no Names) and i have always come back, not because soma has the best graphics, chars skill, etc.. but because i love this game and the community feel. and im sure like me u have thot u would love some of the other game ideas or ideas of your own to be implemented to soma. the other big free games YES they are free but there is always things that u could pay for like special currency for ingame stores for skins, special event costumes or change of colour armour. yes i know all these would require quite a lot of work but the Point is every1 stil payed and some items weren't cheap but we didn't mind.

i mean right now once you get 104str u have nothing to look forward to on Dsoma apart from looking for better tag armours and yo last weps. i love the idea of even highering the programming work out i would definitely pay if ISLYER came and said "guys here are some ideas we want to implement and this is how much it would cost so for these next 3months u can buy certain items ingame for real money (maybe not Pay to Win items Like intense weps and armour, but aesthetics like skins and colour changes" right now its just shout scrolls on donation store. baack in the day i would have gladly paid a fiver for a hair colour change or Sex change (ingame lol)

Anyway in my opinion Payin for Certain things Would be Great for the game bcoz lets be Honest not every donates! We are all co owner really of this game and by paying for small things we can ensure its longevity and progress

First of all it is important to know I am not having a go at people who are currently buying multis, this happens to be a thread on Monetization, so I thought id just put some ideas out there...

Considering people are buying multis at $1/2 an hour and its being allowed or overlooked since its not possible to police or im not sure exactly what.

If there was a way GMs could sell stats at a similar (maybe slightly more expensive rate) which gave exp and str/dex/int (At rate so that say you couldnt buy more than $10/15/?? worth of stats a week) It would allow people to level and still not suddenly cap their char overnight. I know it may be very difficult to implement or monitor how much % to add to a char for stats gained, or even if it is possible.

I personally wouldnt buy any but it seems there is an demand for this (Everyone knows the characters that are doing this as its pretty obvious lol) It could raise a reasonable amount of money for the server without being too game changing.

Pay to win, or whatever call it what you want, but people are already doing it, so why not make it available to all, and have the server profit for more advertisement or development that the money could be put into.

The way to do it would be something like:

There are 4 tiers of rested XP, 3 of which are purchaseable

tier 1 is the standard and it is 2x rates
tier 2 is 3 x rates and costs however many $ for however much %.... say £10 for 100%
tier 3 is 4 x rates and costs 12.50.... etc etc etc

this would then have to be scaled to balance the difference between a level 30 buying 100% rested and a level 99....

I like the idea of the titles, and I think that they should come with perks, as in maybe a kit of some sort getting better each title, would help the server, and might make leveling abit easier even though soma is about grinding etc.

For buying stats I think that it should be based upon your level, so that each player gets their own shop, and so its not that your level 80 with 120ish str, and you keep purchasing lets say 5.0 strength for a amount of money, should be maybe 0.5str or sumthing so that people don't cap overnight etc.

Voting should also include some sort of lucky-ness?, as in, 1/10 chance to get this item, 1/50 chance to get this, 1/100 to get a 5quid donator title? or if you have some sort of currency implemented for voting almost like tokens, and you could use these tokens to purchase upgraded/end game items, but should be only 1token per vote/link.

P.S: Account un-suspended.

Much like the majority, I think paying for stats and items is the worst idea ever. You can be against paying for multis as much as you like (and I am, for the record), but at the end of the day a person is still playing that character, so straight up buying stats is a different matter in my opinion.

I think the best idea to come out of this is saying what GMs want to buy/do, what it will achieve in terms of the game, and showing a target of how much its going to cost with a progress bar so people can see their money going somewhere. It could be on the homepage for all to see, which would also server as a reminder for those that keep meaning to donate.

I am buzzing of how much better the game has become, not just since esoma, but since the server went live, so it would definitely serve as a good incentive to know what cool shit can be bought with the donation money and what that means to us as players.

This. As alot of people have already said, we all don't just play this game to level up and get stronger, we play it because we all love it. Any form of target to show what can be developed, what is in the pipeline and what £££ is needed to reach such a target would be awesome and would give more people of an incentive to donate, alot like the thread I mentioned a while ago here

I made a suggestion about this before and GHOSTLORD came at me really hard about it, pretty much shut it down immediately.

I would really like to see something like this happen. Not Pay2Play, but if you are to donate, for there to be more incentive. Gamers at large do not donate when they're used to free. Ever donated to a developer of a free game on your Playstation or Xbox? No. But you may have bought something from their cash store or DLC to expand your experience, right?

I'm not sure what the donation store has now, I know they had shout scrolls and gender potions at one point, which was a great start. Unique hairstyles, gender pot, skin pot, armour dye's, titles, etc... Things of that nature aren't going to be game breaking, I don't even think rested potions would be, but the dev's know more than me.

Hah, apologies for that.

However, I'll say it again here. We will not be using pay2win, since our goal isn't money. We will take any ideas for monotization seriously but it shouldn't give a real advantage to a character.

I agree with the OP that pay2win is a rocky road and only only be taken after loads of discussion and examining what can happen. Luckily we shouldn't have to.
