official rules

I know this may seem stupid but there's not a direct set of rules to follow on the forum of things you can or cannot do in game. Would it be possible to make a clear set of rules with the consequences for breaching each rule?

That way everyone is accountable for there actions nobody can say they didn't know it was a rule as it would be clearly marked on the forums.

I try and abide by all the rules as I know the majority do, but some areas of soma seem a bit unclear and I don't want to be banned for doing something that isn't clearly stated on here as being wrong.

Even if it was just an additional tab down the side called "rules" that you could read to see what is expected of soma player.

Just been thinking it for a while an actually had 5 mins to make a post

Here's an experiment. Why don't you suggest some rules you believe should be followed. Then you have no excuse when you don't follow them.

If it feels wrong then it mostly likely is wrong. The community will determine how long this game will last. Think rules are a good idea but not absolute necessary.

I agree completely -- it has to be clear. Right now there are a number of areas that seem uncertain.

But this discussion had already began previously here:

So maybe that can be a starting point.

Anyone who says l0l, m3d, kid or large man banned for a week.

Seriously though, there was a thread before.

Following up on dans suggestion, why don't someone fromch each of the 5 main guilds in hsoma talk and combine a set of community guidelines?

No multis, bots or pilots. Take a chance on doing something bit more adventurous in terms of transparency like showing the various B class IPS that log onto a char, the last time they logged off, the places in the world they log in from. Add some click tracking to detect bots, i got tons of ideas for that since i wrote a few of them(never distributed!), i can tell you how to fuck them up.

Begin charging people to play, put a 1 or 2 IP limit on each account and charge them for any more or add a layer of verification.

Think of this more like a proper business than a hobby. I know how you feel sometimes, like you hate the place because you have become too invested in it as if you are a player. Once you start taking money for the game you can view it as though you serve the community rather than rule it and begin thinking outside the box about new ways of turning Soma, or atleast tweaking and tilting it towards a more casual friendly game where you can attract more players. Begin spending more time advertising the game rather than creating content, why? Because the basis of this game is community, not content. 30 extra players would make their own content. Don't be afraid to get someone to do some leg work on creating content that you direct them to. Stop getting caught up on small details on game mechanics too, its the overall feel of the game and the community that matter the most.

OMG really?

I think the majority of us playing are adults, whether we act like them or not, We all know what's right and what's wrong. This is a free service provided for us to play, why do we need "Official Rules" that then takes additional effort of those providing this on their time and money?

"Oh gee I just discovered a bug that lets me do something I've never seen or heard of."

True / False
You should report this to gm in private message?

"With this program I can run around and exp by leaving my pc on, while I'm at work."

True / False
This is unfair play and would probably be against a rule or against the community?

Pass? Fail?

Since people are being dismissive...

Possible reasons why having official rules might be useful:

1. Less crying and complaining when people get banned.
2. More transparency and fairness on both sides -- clear rules with clear punishments.
3. New members to the community can get up to speed quickly. (If you think it's obvious, just look at the multis rule, which is often not allowed elsewhere. Or bots/clickers while at your computer.)
4. To clarify grey areas where the rules might be debatable. Situations aren't always black and white, no matter what anyone says.
5. To distinguish between behaviour which is frowned upon, and behaviour which is actually bannable.
6. To make it easier for GMs to deal with situations: Being able to say, "Go read the rules," will no doubt save time.
7. Changes to GM policies would be much easier to introduce if they ever chose to do so.

Am I missing anything?

I would also add that Ghostlord did some really great work on this already :) It would be a shame for it to go to waste.

Sorry for that, and yes there could be "written" rules but if common sense doesn't prevent negative actions or abuses. Why would a written set of rules? Players who abuse are not concerned with the repercussions.

So far I've not heard of bans being handed out that weren't deserved (even if only admitted in private).

Why only the five main guilds dont other smaller guilds count? If you do it that way then once again it wont be fair to all will it. Once again the small man in Soma gets no voice, just because they arent high levellers dont they count in the community?

No, it was purely because you guys play fairly.

Most of the "wrongs" are from the top 3 or 4 guilds.

In fact, all of them are .
